The Sr. Staff Desktop Systems Administrator in our San Francisco office is primarily responsible for evaluating, selecting, implementing and serving as system owner for various hardware and software systems used in the support of end-user computing devices.

This includes managing all end-user computing and mobile device inventories; end-user device deployment and management, including application of security patches and updates; and, serving as a point of escalation for all end user support staff, and liaison between the end user support group and the infrastructure team. This individual also provides day-to-day technical support to employees for internal desktop systems software and hardware; Researches and helps identify improvements of processes and procedures for Information Technology; and, provides guidance to colleagues.  May act as a senior level internal consultant to Senior Management team, applying in-depth knowledge of the functional area, business strategies, and the company's goals.

Systems Administration:

  • Responsible for all facets related to end-user computing device evaluation, selection, acquisition, deployment, and maintenance; including but not limited to completion of CapEx requests, maintaining appropriate hardware inventory levels, managing the device life cycle through planned replacements of aging equipment, etc.
  • Evaluates, selects, implements, and serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for software and hardware systems used primarily in the support of end-user devices such as Microsoft SCCM, ticketing management systems, automated checklist systems, hardware and software inventory management systems, etc.
  • Responsible for software licensing and maintenance renewals for end-user software in addition to software systems implemented by and owned by the End User Support Group.

Desktop Support:

  • Serves as a point of escalation to less experienced staff for troubleshooting complex issues, and serves as a primary liaison between the End User Support Group and the IT Infrastructure Team.
  • Helps test, prepare, and deploy new software, enhancements and upgrades. Installs, configures, and tests desktop hardware and software problems.
  • Helps complete desktop related projects as assigned.
  • Provides back-up support as needed for desktop support activities.
  • Participates in the on-call schedule to respond to priority after-hour incidents as needed.

Mobile Device Management:

  • Responsible for all facets related to end-user mobile device evaluation, selection, acquisition, deployment, and maintenance; including but not limited to configuring and maintaining mobile device management policies, managing mobile device software deployments for both optional and required mobile device applications, maintaining appropriate inventory levels and device tracking.

Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline is required. Equivalent experience may be accepted.  A minimum of 12 years relevant industry experience supporting remote desktop/laptop users, email, mobile devices, Microsoft Office Suite, and other related desktop applications, as well as PC and laptop imaging and repair are required.  Previous experience working in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry (GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing or other regulated environment) preferred.

Additional Skills / Experience:

  • Extensive technical knowledge and issue resolution-expertise with: Windows OS (Windows 7, and Windows 10), Office (2010, 2016, and O365), mobile devices management in a Microsoft Exchange / ActiveSync environment, WiFi adapters and networks, Help Desk Ticketing systems, Desktop Management systems, user management in Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange 2010/2016.
  • Extensive experience with desktop security and specifically local machine configuration restriction is required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are required, as well as having the ability to troubleshoot issues outside the defined area of expertise.
  • Experience with IP (LAN and WAN) networking, DNS, and DHCP is required.
  • Experience to provide problem solving and troubleshooting support to peers.
  • System implementation experience.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on listening and questioning skills are required.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Quick learner and team player with excellent organizational skills.
  • Managing day to day operations of support vendors.
  • Strong attention to detail regarding documentation.
  • Ability to follow established team guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

Nektar Therapeutics (Nektar) currently anticipates the base salary for the Sr Staff Desktop Systems Administrator   in our San Francisco office could range from $119,000 to $181,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience.  This position will also be eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan (depending, in part, on company and individual performance and at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis). The compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described based on market survey data.
