POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW - ONCOLOGY

General Summary:

This position serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies.  This is a temporary, one-year appointment and may be renewable depending on funding and other considerations. Participates in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the supervision of a Primary Investigator. Analyzes research data and provides interpretations.  Contributes to the development of research documentation for publications and/or provides technical reports, papers and/or records.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a research trainee for the purpose of enhancing and developing research competencies
  • Participates in planning, designing and conducting highly technical and complex research projects under the direction of a supervisor.  May work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Participates in writing scientific papers and supports preparations of grant applications.
  • Identify research, compile and evaluate data sources, background information and/or technology related to the area of specialization.
  • Design and execute cell-based workflows to evaluate potential drug targets in cancer specific cell lines. .
  • Analyze results of genetic and biochemical analyses and apply statistical tests and based computer programs upon which interpretation of results will be based.
  • Study and evaluate the biochemical effects of targeting effector proteins with either gene silencing of pharmacological inhibition. .
  • Be familiar with current in vivo models of colon and pancreatic cancer progression.
  • Keep up to date in the scientific discipline(s) in which you are conducting research through continual review of current scientific literature.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology or relevant discipline.
  • 3+ years research experience in biological sciences.
  • Strong field studies, microbiology, and molecular biology background.
  • Experience with gene expression assays and with protein-protein interactions studies are desirable, specifically binding kinetics.
  • Proficiency in mammalian cell culture, cell lines maintenance and manipulation.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Research experience in the field of specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and methods of analysis.
  • Ability to observe appropriate safety and to study requirements by reading, understanding, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) requirements, and protocols as applicable.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suites Products and and related statistical software packages required.
  • Knowledge of use of protective equipment and safety protocol related to the possible exposure to dust, body fluids, tissues, radiation, chemicals, fumes, vapors, or mists that could potentially affect the health of the employee.
  • Knowledge of use of protective equipment and safety protocols related to handling hazardous materials.
  • Must meet entry requirements and be able to work in a Biosafety Level-2 laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Flow Cytometry biology is a plus.
  • Experience in confocal microscopy.
  • Experience with Crispr and other gene editing/expression techniques.
  • Experience with computational modeling and basic programming.
  • Proficiency in the use of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, GraphPad and other relevant software desired.
