In this vital role Amgen is seeking talented Human Resources Professionals with a broad variety of HR experiences in client-facing and/or Center of Excellence (COE) roles with large, multi-national companies. This position is one of several opportunities that provide an excellent entry point to quickly learn Amgen, both the business and the HR function, while providing high visibility and opportunity to interact with an extensive range of HR and business leaders.

The HR Site Leader for Amgen San Francisco (ASF) will work directly with the VP Site Lead to manage a world-class research site. With over 650 employees and growing, Amgens new campus in South San Francisco is the companys largest research facility outside of our headquarters. Scientists at ASF are focused on Discovery Research in Oncology, Inflammation and Cardiometabolic Disease, Therapeutic Technologies, Biologics, a special unit dedicated to Genome Analysis, as well as scientists working in preclinical Pathology, Toxicology, and Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Serve as the trusted advisor and coach to R&D leaders and other site clients in areas of HR strategy, culture, leadership, talent management, rewards, and change management. A key focus of this high-impact role is developing and implementing innovative strategies to build engagement and a strong culture in the midst of dynamic growth

  • Participate as an active member of the site senior leadership team. Develop and drive initiatives and programs that meet local needs while remaining aligned with global strategies

  • Oversee execution of HR processes (onboarding, performance evaluation, compensation planning, career development, talent management) as well as provide ongoing coaching and training to people managers at the site

  • Interface with corporate HR, linking closely with the global R&D HR team to facilitate two-way communication and collaboration

  • Partner with HR Centers of Expertise to develop and implement changes, working to anticipate, coordinate, and plan programs at the site - ensuring HR initiatives add value to Amgens business goals

  • Represent Amgen at key local external activities across industry and academic affiliations, focusing on attracting top talent to the site and enhancing our reputation in the Bay Area

  • Partner with Canada HR team to support similar activities for a second small research site in Vancouver

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Human Resources experience

Or

Masters degree and 4 years of Human Resources experience

Or

Bachelors degree and 6 years of Human Resources experience

Or

Associates degree and 10 years of Human Resources experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Human Resources experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Human Resources for a large global or multinational organization

  • Strategic HR business partner experience or other client-facing experience strongly preferred

  • Strong project management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to craft innovative strategies and deliver pragmatic solutions

  • Strong analytical skills and understanding of how to use data to inform decisions

  • Ability to balance a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and competing demands

  • Self-directed, passionate about the work, and willing to take informed risks

  • Strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word

The annual salary range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $125,253 $151,009.
