Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets. 


The Senior Software Engineer, Image Data Compression and Processing Algorithms will develop software algorithms to compress Eikon’s drug-discovery data streams, including movies and derived data from single-particle tracking experiments.  They will also interface with biologists, medicinal chemists, microscopists, and optical engineers to design and deploy computational solutions to enable feature quantification in Eikon’s high-content datasets. 

About You 

You have a passion for working with experimentalists to understand how imaging data are being used for biomedical investigation, and for implementing efficient algorithms to extract the information experimentalists need. You are adept at optimizing production algorithms to efficiently use compute and storage resources in a scientific context at petabyte scale. You care comfortable developing software at all levels of technical maturity, from proof-of-concept to production. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Design, implement, and optimize signal processing and image analysis algorithms to enable Eikon’s drug discovery programs
  • Research, design, implement, test and optimize both existing and custom data compression algorithms
  • Integrate high-impact optimizations into our production pipelines
  • Design and refine data models and associated APIs to store and access high-throughput drug discovery microscopy data


  • M.S. in computer science; or M.S. in a related field (physics, mathematics, etc) plus 3+ years of programming experience in an industry setting, or equivalent experience
  • Background in digital signal processing of microscopy or other image data required
  • Prior experience with algorithm development for microscopy image analysis or similar using classical approaches (Fourier transforms, convolutions, filtering etc) strongly desired
  • Five or more years’ experience writing production software in C/C++ and Python.
  • Deep knowledge of data compression strategies and algorithms required
  • Experience with modelling scientific data in protocol buffers a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented, flexible, able to adapt to rapidly evolving goals and challenges
