The Proteomics Core Facility (PCF) at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Biochemist. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.  

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update accurate records of daily experiments and results including research documentation.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance; ensure research supplies are kept stocked.
  • Maintain and update laboratory notebooks and equipment.
  • Prepare protein samples including in-gel, in-solution, on-beads digestion and 2D separation.
  • Perform data acquisition on a Themo Fusion Lumos instrument and an Agilent 6230 LC-TOF instrument.
  • Analyze data using Proteome Discoverer, Mascot, and MaxQuant software.
  • Perform protein samples preparation for LC-MS/MS analysis.
  • Report the results to core users.
  • Present and communicate results with Project Team and staff.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data for experimental results; prepare tables and figures.
  • Evaluate new technologies and instruments resulting in proposals for new screening strategies and novel assay formats.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of the equipment. Machines are under service contract.
  • Maintain accurate research records digitally.
  • Write manuscript for publications, in collaboration with other team members and outside collaborators.
  • Write and review technical protocols and reports documenting analytical development studies pertaining to assigned work.
  • Extract proteins from cells and tissues.
  • Conduct routine and non-routine sample preparation/extraction methods for a variety of biological matrices including but not limited to plasma, urine, skeletal muscle, and brain tissue.
  • Prepare tables, figures, and experimental details for publications and present results at conferences.
  • Analyze the experiment results and present findings in project meetings, laboratory, and outside meetings.
  • Work with staff in the design, implementation, interpretation, and reporting of bioanalytical method development and sample analysis.

  • At least 1 year of experience
