Job Details

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie Company, is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Sr. Scientist II who will contribute to a dynamic and multidisciplinary discovery research program by applying innovative microbiological research to engineer bacterial hosts to produce novel protein therapeutics.

The successful candidate should possess extensive and practical experience in strain engineering of anaerobic bacteria to modify and express complex and high value proteins.  We are seeking strong candidates with in-depth knowledge of genetic engineering of microbial organisms, specifically anaerobic bacteria. Knowledge and hands on experience in synthetic biology techniques is required. The successful candidate will preferably have strong molecular biology skills and practical experience applying various genetic editing tools and techniques. Industrial or academic experience is required.  Experience with target protein isolation and purification is desirable.

The successful candidate will have a strong and established background in molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry and genetic engineering of microorganisms.  The candidate will have demonstrated the ability to plan and execute high quality, creative scientific work independently as well as in collaboration with others.  This individual will need to design and execute approaches for genetic, microbial strain engineering and evaluation.  He/she will need to organize, analyze, and interpret results independently, make scientific and strategic recommendations, present findings to management and team meetings, and maintain a productive, collaborative and inclusive laboratory environment consistent with regulatory and company expectations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish technologies, plan, design and execute the engineering of anaerobic microbial strains to product desired therapeutic proteins.  Confirm strain sequence, evaluate protein expression and contribute to protein isolation.
  • Data analysis and presentation to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Work with cross-functional team members to accomplish the goals and requirements of the organization, including excellence in execution, and workload prioritization.
