Job Details
The Protein Biochemistry Group (PBG) is seeking a highly motivated Bioanalytical Scientist to support quantification and characterization of novel therapeutic modalities, using pioneering technologies. In this role you will be developing analytical methods and providing biophysical and biochemical characterization of protein-based therapeutics, ADCs, and mRNA technology to support programs in late-stage research through BLA.
A Typical Day as a Scientist Might Look Like:- Identifies issues and develops solutions in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment. The candidate is encouraged to assume a leading role to support R&D activities and regulatory applications and deepen our knowledge of therapeutics.
- Provides biophysical support and analytical development for both upstream and downstream functional groups; helps solve problems in real-time.
- Leads efforts to characterize various modalities to support regulatory filings and develop analytical methods within specified timelines.
- Documents experiments, results, and findings in electronic laboratory notebook.
- Presents work at group and department meetings; contributes to drafting of analytical characterization reports, regulatory submission sections, and peer-reviewed articles for publication.
- Serves as a team representative in drug candidate-specific development team meetings, and shares knowledge and expertise of biophysical chemistry at cross-functional team meetings.
- Will likely serve in a matrix-based team within Protein Biochemistry to assist in characterization efforts.
- Aids research associates conducting R&D work.
- Participates in the lab and instrument maintenance.
You have a PhD in analytical chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering or equivalent with 0-4 years post-doctoral training; this may be combined with industry experience in analytical characterization of proteins, ADCs and mRNAs. You have in-depth knowledge of macromolecular chemistry; hands-on experience in gene therapy, ADCs and protein characterization using a variety of analytical tools for solution-based analyses is helpful. This role is for you if you are hardworking, efficient, flexible, and able to perform key responsibilities in a fast-paced, team environment.
- Prior experience in or collaboration with the biopharmaceutical industry is highly preferred.
- Experience in analytical method development and analyzing proteins and/or mRNA with liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis method is essential. Experience in spectroscopic (e.g. CD, fluorescence, and/or FTIR) principles and applications for analysis of proteins, size-based (e.g. light scattering, AUC) and charge-based (e.g. icIEF, IEX) separation techniques is preferred. Experience with advanced analytics such as MS techniques is a bonus.
- Experience with macromolecular solution chemistry and biophysics and how this applies to proteins, nucleic acids and viruses.
- Ability and passion for independently learning new methods and software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to prepare slides, author reports and manuscripts for internal and external presentations.
- The candidate must demonstrate the ability to plan, design, implement and analyze laboratory experimentation to advance projects. Experience with statistical and experimental design, molecular modeling, graphing and mathematical analysis software is a plus.
