Protein Scientist (Expression)

The Role: BigHat Biosciences is looking for a motivated and energetic Protein Scientist with a strong background in cell-based protein expression to further advance BigHat’s platform for ML-driven antibody discovery and engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Onboard protein expression using transient transfections in Expi293 and/or ExpiCHO cells at 5 mL to 1 L scales
• Design, develop, and execute production workflows for molecule design, plasmid construction, expression, titering, and harvest
• Expression of antigens and various antibody formats, including fragments, IgGs, novel fusion proteins, and bi- and multi-specifics
• Evaluation and incorporation of emerging technologies for higher expression, increased speed, and/or decreased COGs 
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional internal teams and external service providers to ensure timely completion of deliverables

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D and at least one (1) year of hands-on working experience related to protein expression, preferably with antibody molecules using Expi293 or ExpiCHO cells
• A strong molecular biology background for developing efficient cloning workflows
• Prior innovation in mammalian expression for increasing yield, speed, or throughput
• Appetite for learning and using new tools and technologies to support core responsibilities and cross-functional communication 
• A strong can-do mentality and desire to thrive in a dynamic start-up environment
• Nice-to-haves include experience in protein purification, analytics, or automation
