Amgen is seeking a Director, Tax Planning to be part of Amgens tax planning and transfer pricing team. The team is part of a world class tax department that provides, global tax planning, transfer pricing, tax reporting, and tax audit defense for the company, and works closely with the Tax, Finance, and Business teams in Thousand Oaks, Tampa, and around the world to ensure that Amgens tax planning and transfer pricing align with our business operations.

In this important role, the Director, Tax Planning will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing tax planning related to domestic and international business transactions, internal restructurings, and other projects. The Director will also oversee tax and transfer pricing projects related to Amgens supply chain and manufacturing operations and must work closely with Amgens Tax Reporting function to ensure that business transactions and tax planning and transfer pricing projects are properly reflected in Amgens financial reporting and tax returns.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify, evaluate, and implement tax planning and transfer pricing projects

  • Collaborate and partner closely with Amgens Business, including the Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Supply Chain, and Operations functions, by providing tax advice to aid the companys business decisions

  • Monitor and analyze global tax law changes and other tax risks and proactively lead changes to Amgens processes

  • Provide tax and transfer pricing advice to the Supply Chain and Operations functions regarding Amgens supply chain and manufacturing footprint

  • Research, analyze, and interpret relevant tax statutes and regulations

  • Regularly communicate with stakeholders across the Finance and Business organizations regarding relevant tax issues

  • Provide tax technical advice to the tax reporting and tax audit teams

  • Assist with business development transactions as needed

As a global biopharmaceutical company with over $25 billion in revenue, the Companys tax matters include mergers and acquisitions, collaboration and licensing transactions, research and development activities, complex supply chain and manufacturing issues, commercial operations, and financing transactions, among others.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years tax planning experience

OR

Masters degree and 4 years tax planning experience

OR

Bachelors degree and 6 years tax planning experience

OR

Associates degree and 10 years of tax planning experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of tax planning experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in domestic and international tax planning with a Big Four Accounting firm, large law firm, and/or the tax department of an outbound, multinational corporation

  • CPA, JD, and/or Master of Business Tax

  • Strong project management skills, including experience leading significant cross-functional tax planning and/or transfer pricing projects and managing associated third-party advisors

  • Significant experience working with tax issues common to outbound, multinational companies that own high-value intangibles and have complex supply chains, including the U.S. taxation of international transactions and operations (including GILTI, FDII, BEAT, FTCs, sec. 482, and sec. 163(j)).

  • Understanding of accounting for income taxes

  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions and other business transactions

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent critical thinking skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills critical to a team-oriented organization

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
