We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA. mGx will be an innovation engine for the company focused on discovering and delivering the next generation of in vivo gene editing and nonviral gene therapies. It is our intention to be an industry leader in genomic medicines.

The Role:

mGx is seeking an Director for its Cell Biology and Assay Innovations Team. The Director will lead and scale the Cell Biology and Assay Innovations Team to support the increasing scope of mGx needs. The Cell Biology and Assay Innovations Team will collaborate with the medicine branches of mGx to design, optimize, and execute biologically and pharmacologically relevant cell-based assays. The team will also collaborate with others within mGx to develop and optimize and execute assays such as ELISA, Luminex, etc. The Director will leverage his/her/their expertise with state-of-the-art in vitro cell based technologies including engineered cell lines, primary cells, organoid cultures, 3D models and/or differentiated iPS cells as appropriate. The leader will have demonstrated success in delivering on goals in a timely manner in an industrial environment and possess significant experience managing people. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have previously developed and executed high-throughput and automated screening strategies.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Lead and develop a team with extensive knowledge of technically advanced cell-based assays for genomic medicines.

  • Apply deep expertise in cellular pharmacology to develop cell-based assays to interrogate the response of cells to the delivery of non-viral transgene and gene editing modalities.

  • Lead the design, optimization, and execution of high-content screens using state-of-the art-live cell imaging (eg Opera Phenix)

  • Lead the design, optimization, and execution of assays to assess pharmacodynamic endpoints of animal studies and cell based assays using technologies such as MSD, ELISA and Luminex

  • Collaborate with the non-viral transgene and gene editing teams to develop and deploy assays as needed.

  • Collaborate with the assay automation team to scale up and automate cell-based assays as needed.

About Moderna

In over 10 years since its inception, Moderna has transformed from a research-stage company advancing programs in the field of messenger RNA (mRNA), to an enterprise with a diverse clinical portfolio of vaccines and therapeutics across seven modalities, a broad intellectual property portfolio in areas including mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, and an integrated manufacturing plant that allows for rapid clinical and commercial production at scale. Moderna maintains alliances with a broad range of domestic and overseas government and commercial collaborators, which has allowed for the pursuit of both groundbreaking science and rapid scaling of manufacturing. Most recently, Moderna's capabilities have come together to allow the authorized use and approval of one of the earliest and most effective vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna's mRNA platform builds on continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing, and has allowed the development of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases. Moderna has been named a top biopharmaceutical employer by Science for the past seven years. To learn more, visit www.modernatx.com.
