The Rare Disease Key Account Director (RD KAD) is responsible for leading and coaching the Rare Disease Key Account Management Regional team, with a key focus on executing a patient first approach while impacting aligned market and brand goals. As the most senior Account Management role in the field, the Rare Disease KAD will impact goal progression by utilizing local knowledge and leadership skills to coach their RD KAM direct reports to develop and execute against strategic account plans that are mutually aligned to both Amgen and the customer. RD KADs will also compliantly provide and coach their RD KAMs to provide cross-functional leadership with account and customer information to enable collaborative communications that support aligned business imperatives across the appropriate roles aligned to the Integrated Account Team model.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide the day-to-day leadership and management of Account Management Colleagues, including alignment to brand / market goals, KPIs and performance management
  • Take full accountability for all personnel issues and act as the final point of escalation for all Account Management roles in their region, coordinating with the National Integrated Account Team lead
  • Lead the consistent execution Business and Account priorities within the region with a focus on long and short-term mutual value opportunities identified with Prioritized Accounts and aligned with market and brand goals, as well as company and Rare Disease Strategic Customer Group Vision
  • Lead Account Management roles to execute while leveraging the IAT model and Account / Customer engagement strategies to drive business performance
  • Deliver documented capabilities-based coaching to support skill excellence and optimal development across the RD KAM team
  • Manage the various budgets for the assigned region
  • Maintain required technical, environmental and Account Management expertise in order to respond accurately and compliantly to all questions regarding products, policies and business-related issues from customers and Account Management Colleagues
  • Recruit and select candidates for Account Management positions in compliance with Amgen requirements, utilizing approved hiring materials

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of collective account management experience, sales, & commercial experience

OR

  • Masters degree & 6 years of collective account management experience, sales, & commercial experience

OR

  • Bachelors degree & 8 years of collective account management experience, sales, & commercial experience

OR

  • Associate degree & 10 years of collective account management experience, sales, & commercial experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, e.g. MBA, MPH
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams; direct experience building and leading new sales, account management and marketing teams
  • Managerial experience directly managing people such as or District Manager experience and/or leadership experience leading cross functional teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • Significant prior Account Management or Payer experience preferred
  • Proven track record of access creation in managed markets
  • Experience negotiating contracts with regional payers & IDNs
  • Knowledge of the US reimbursement environment and state level policies within a regional geography
  • Prior experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives with cross-functional Business Units that successfully enable access and demand creation in key accounts
  • Prior experience working with Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), Health Outcomes & Pharmacoeconomics (HOPE) MSLs/Field HEOR Managers, Medical platform or policy development and opinion leader engagement
  • Account Management, Reimbursement, Quality, and Value experience
  • Strong communication and presentation skills including experience with executive-level audiences
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical skills/business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, impart energy and enthusiasm, and work in teams
