Job Details
The Director, Patent Attorney will lead our efforts in the development, protection, and management of Regeneron’s intellectual property pertaining to therapeutic molecules (including monoclonal antibodies). This role will spearhead patent activities at all stages of the development pipeline and across multiple therapeutic areas such as; immunology and inflammation, infectious diseases, neuroscience, metabolism, cardiovascular medicine, and oncology (including anti-angiogenesis therapies and immuno-oncology). The patent attorney will also advise on emerging legal issues, including supervising and reviewing case law and legislative developments, and is encouraged to contribute to administrative and legal projects intended to develop an IP Department displaying the highest legal and ethical standards.
A typical day may include:
Identifying and assembling new inventions relating to monoclonal antibodies, nucleic acid-based medicines, and other therapeutic molecules and formats;
Preparing and prosecuting global patent applications relating to all aspects of therapeutic molecules, including pharmaceutical compositions, formulations, methods of treatment, administration regimens, biomarkers and diagnostics;
Pursuing patent term extensions and supplementary protection certificates;
Managing outside counsel on various projects as appropriate;
Collaborating with and advising regulatory, clinical, and commercial colleagues to establish and implement long term exclusivity and life cycle management strategies for Regeneron assets;
Conducting patent landscape overviews, freedom-to-operate analyses, validity assessments and patentability assessments in relation to Regeneron pipeline products
Managing US and foreign administrative patent actions (e.g., oppositions, third party observations, inter partes reviews, etc.);
Assisting in litigation activities as needed;
Supporting due diligence projects, agreements and transactional initiatives, and policy questions;

Ability to lead ambitious projects, handle multiple complex legal matters and see projects through to conclusion.
Strong knowledge of IP law.
Experience working in biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
Experience with contracts involving intellectual property.
A high level of business acumen.
To be considered for this role you must possess
Ph.D. in life sciences (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, immunology or related disciplines) is required;
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school;
Admitted to practice before the USPTO and licensed to practice law in at least one state (member of the NY bar or eligible for in-house licensure in NY);
4-8 years of experience in a law firm setting (with or without corporate law department experience) preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the biological arts;
Strong organizational skills and ability to lead multiple projects and contending priorities;
Ability to manage a large and complex docket with minimal supervision;
Exceptional communication skills, including presentation, interpersonal, writing and conflict resolution.
Salary Range (annually)
$182,800.00 - $304,600.00Company
