About the Role

As the Director of Electrical & Software Engineering, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers developing and deploying a medical device that delivers high-voltage nanosecond pulsed electric fields optimized for multiple indications. You will also be responsible for providing leadership to a team of electrical and software engineers/technicians, managing development from concepts and early protypes to volume production, working closely with internal cross-functional teams to ensure success of the product.

 

You will make an impact by:

  • Lead the design, development, and documentation of complex high-voltage pulse generation and measurement systems including system and subsystem software/firmware.
  • Ensure a smooth transition of new products from white board to compliance testing and into manufacturing.
  • Manage projects with cross-functional teams following design control processes while generating requirements/specifications, software architecture and code-reviews, FMEA/Hazard analyses, V&V protocols/reports, etc.
  • Managing the software team in planning features, responding to customer feedback, and assisting with software related investigations.
  • Hire, develop and motivate a high performing team. Set team’s deliverables/objectives, performance goals, and empower them to deliver on Pulse Biosciences’ strategic priorities and objectives. 

 

To be successful, you will bring: 

  • BS in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science required.  MS highly desired.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in medical device or equivalent experience. 
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role managing teams. Technical management of a development group with at least eight engineers is a must. 
  • Extensive real-time, high-reliability, system software design experience, including RTOSs, bare-metal MCU firmware, communication protocols, etc. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Unix-like operating systems, with emphasis on RTOSs (QNX, VxWorks, RTLinux, Nucleus, RedHawk, etc.)
  •  Knowledge of C/C++ and related compilers and debuggers for application processors (x86) and “bare-metal” microcontrollers (dsPIC and related). Knowledge of Python and scripting for automated test is a plus.
  • Experience with IEC 60601 testing and ensuring a smooth transition into manufacturing.
