Intern - Biostatistics

Who We Are

The Biostatistics team provides statistical support for study design, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. We provide statistical consultation on trial design and study endpoints, author statistical analysis plans, provide statistical advice with respect to creating a clinical development program, and use knowledge of literature to provide data analysis and present methods to support publications/presentations

Job Overview

The Ideal candidate will have an academic background in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field with a strong interest in clinical trials and drug development by leveraging causal inference and machine learning techniques. Interns will work closely with an experienced biostatistician on topics related to the design and analysis of clinical trials, analysis of biomarker data, or statistical methodology. The internship will include specific projects related to analyzing data, reviewing literature, developing new statistical methodologies or statistical software packages, and running simulations. The intern will gain experience conducting biostatistical research via the application of statistical and computational expertise in combination with critical thinking skills to address real and impactful data analysis issues in clinical trials. At the conclusion of the internship program, interns will give a presentation summarizing their work.

Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Assist in design and analysis of clinical trial data or biomarkers
  • A research project to develop statistical methods and R/SAS package in one or multiple areas of the followings: machine learning, causal inference, survival analysis and missing data imputation
  • Running simulation studies
  • Writing statistical reports
  • Showcase your work with a final presentation near the conclusion of your internship


Required Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.8
  • Authorized to work in the United States without Sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a PhD or Master program at an accredited US based university or college
  • Proficient in R; familiarity with python and SAS a plus
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Pursuing degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related fields
  • Must be enrolled in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internship
  • Must be able to work full time for a 10-12 consecutive week internship between May and August
  • Must be able to work at our Foster City site for the duration of the internship
  • Must show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and first booster shot


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of machine learning and causal inference
  • Completion of at least two years of graduate-level course work in biostatistics, statistics or related field
  • Passed doctorate exam prior to the start of the internship
  • Experience with simulations
  • Solid ethical decision-making skills, self-motivated and adaptable to change
  • Excellent detail oriented analytical, problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational, time-management, interpersonal and communication capabilities
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in the workplace
  • Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
