This is a field-based position within the Health Outcomes and Pharmacoeconomics (HOPE) Specialists group in Medical Value & Access (MV&A), reporting to a Director.

The geographic region for this position is Western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh), with other accounts and Internal Project Initiatives supporting CV-Metabolic, Inflammation/Bone/Neuro (IBN), and/or other Therapeutic Areas on behalf of MV&A department.

Purpose:

To develop and support programs, activities and relationships, both externally and internally to Amgen, in order to advance the value and clinical knowledge of our products to the payer community.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for fulfilling all aspects of the regional HOPE Specialist role pertaining to payer and formulary support, opinion leader development, value development study support, and product support.

Internal Collaboration with Therapeutic Area Global Leads, Health Economic and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Amgen Observational Research, Amgen Market Access, Value and Access, Value Marketing teams, and others for strategic clinical support, evidence generation research, population health, value-based agreements, and special projects, on behalf of MV&A team.

Provide Payer and Formulary Support through value and medical presentations that focus on therapeutic as well as economic outcomes and utilization aspects of products, and in clinical policy discussions such as evidence-based medicine, clinical guidelines and prior authorization in areas where Amgen has therapeutic expertise. Identify, develop, and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future Payer, Policy, and Health Economic and Outcomes Research opinion leaders through identifying speaker opportunities and concepts and letters of intent for investigator supported economics, humanistic outcome, and nonregistration clinical studies to support Amgen's product messages within scope. Interact with key internal stakeholders to provide feedback on customer trends in interpreting and using value evidence, reimbursement and payer policy. Provide complex value-based technical information inclusive of medical education, health outcomes and Pharmacoeconomics information and models and research protocol opportunities to appropriate audiences. Represent Amgen Medical Value & Access to designated payer accounts. Represent Amgen to designated thought leaders in health economics and outcomes research. Foster scientific information exchange as it relates to reimbursement and coverage policy between the medical community and Amgen. Collect and report competitive intelligence within Amgen's competitive intelligence guidelines. Effectively manage internal relationships, budgets, and T&E within guidelines. Conduct all assigned duties within Amgen compliance guidelines.

Internal MV&A Strategic Asset Lead

Represent MV&A across internal Medical / Commercial Teams as key contributor for the development of the cross-functional engagement Strategy

  • Partner with Global Value and Access stakeholders to identify impact of policy changes on Amgen portfolio and overall Therapeutic Area strategy

Represent MV&A as key contributor across internal therapeutic area workstreams supporting medical vision and MV&A perspective for the overall payer engagement product strategy Represent MV&A to lead/participate in SAP presentations across internal Therapeutic Area cross-functional teams to gain input and shape development of the HOPE strategy Forge strong relationships and cross-functional collaboration with key internal stakeholders in Global Medical, Value and Access, Market Access teams to facilitate One-Amgen customer facing engagement strategies. Represent MV&A in development of Long Range Scenario (LRS) for early pipeline assets in partnership with Amgen teams and functions Participate across internal teams for assessment of insights and views across reimbursement/provider landscape, assess impact of key events at Payer/IDN level and provide real-time updates for implications to Amgens portfolio of shifting landscape.

Travel Requirements

Expected customer travel is around 60% (including congress attendance and internal meetings)

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Medical Affairs or Payer experience

Or

Masters degree and 7 years of direct Managed Market/Payer/IDN engagement experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (Other Doctoral Degrees considered)
  • Five years Biotech industry experience working directly with US Payer Accounts
  • CV, Metabolic, Inflammation, Bone, Neuro therapeutic area expertise
  • Deep knowledge of managed markets, US Reimbursement Landscape, Pharmacoeconomics, Population Health, and other broad healthcare trends.
  • Experience in Patient Access in US and / or global markets
  • Project management experience within a biopharmaceutical company
  • Strong advocacy, communication and team cohesion skills
  • Critical thinking, analytical and project management skills
  • Ability to lead and manage projects from concept to completion
  • Strong interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, active listening, and relationship management skills
  • Interface effectively with all levels, including senior management
  • Ability to influence others while fostering a value-based environment of dedication and fairness
  • Ability to understand, plan, and navigate in a matrix and, at times, ambiguous environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly and effectively present information
  • Demonstrates creativity and foresight in anticipating and solving complex project issues
