About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. As Senior Research Associate, you will report to the Senior Scientist to help a multi-disciplinary team of scientists in developing and implementing flow cytometry instrumentation and methods to support the advancement of Sana’s cell therapy programs. You will work with team members in Analytical Development and Process Development to perform flow cytometry assays to assess cell health, phenotype, and functionality for our cell therapy programs. You will also gain experience in automated data analysis for flow cytometry and commercialization of cell therapy products.  Cool stuff.

What you’ll do

  • Perform flow cytometry assays to support the characterization, process development, stability testing, and release testing of cell therapy products
  • Perform mammalian cell culture of primary and immortalized cell lines
  • Perform calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instruments and reagents
  • Create detailed documentation of experimental procedures and results in the electronic laboratory notebook
  • Deliver scientific presentations, prepare technical reports, and draft/revise analytical test methods.
  • Contribute to flow cytometry best practices
  • Maintain inventory of reagents and improve operational efficiency in the laboratory

What we’re looking for

  • Senior Research Associate: Bachelor’s degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related field with 4 years of relevant experience or master’s degree with 1+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience performing multi-color flow cytometry experiments, specifically experience with antibody staining and flow cytometer set-up procedures
  • Attention to detail, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Thrive in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work from multiple projects

What will separate you from the crowd

  • Experience analyzing flow cytometry data independently using FlowJo
  • Experience with culturing and characterizing T cells and pluripotent stem cells using flow cytometry
  • Experience working in a regulated GxP environment
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidelines from the FDA, ICH, USP, etc.
  • Familiarity with development and/or commercialization of cell-based therapeutics, including the development of analytical methods

What you should know

  • Ability to work in BSL-1 and BSL-2 labs
  • Prolonged standing and/or sitting
  • Manual dexterity required to operate office and lab equipment
  • Occasional weekend work
  • Occasional travel to other Sana locations
  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular in-person basis is an essential job function for this position, and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including receipt of a vaccine booster shot if recommended by the CDC
