The Formulation Development Group, positioned within Analytical Development, is seeking an Associate Scientist to join this rapidly growing area of our CDMO business. This position calls for a strong team player who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and will enjoy the challenges associated with protein personality assessment, formulation development and core analytical techniques (HPLC, UPLC, CE, icIEF). The formulation development group is a high performing team that works on most of the programs that come into the global Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies Organization for formulation development, process development support and general molecular stability troubleshooting. The group is comprised of very strong scientists that are personally driven towards quality work for our customers and science-based decision making. The successful candidate in this position will be trained on all biochemical assays/equipment needed for formulation development (HPLC/UPLC, capillary electrophoresis and capillary IEF). The major responsibility of the Associate Scientist is to plan, coordinate, execute and summarize the biochemical data that is part of each formulation development study and/or package. The Associate Scientist will gain an understanding of the interconnection of the biochemical data and the biophysical data and how decisions are made for protein formulations. This position will require strong organizational and interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a supportive team environment. The scientist in this role will be provided opportunities for continuous learning related to advanced biophysical protein assessment and the overall development process of protein biotherapeutics.

 

The successful candidate requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic knowledge in the following techniques, specifically in the analysis of proteins: UV-Vis, SEC-UPLC, capillary electrophoresis and capillary IEF.
  • General knowledge of protein structure and stability.
  • Good Laboratory skills such as buffer preparation, sample handling, safety procedures, chemical handling.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. The optimal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent writing skills, and desire to communicate in a positive manner with colleagues.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow as a protein scientist.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work individually or as part of a team; a person who highly values collaboration (such as cross-shadowing), a positive work environment and scientific enthusiasm.
  • Comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment with defined deliverables and deadlines.

Experience

The position typically requires at a minimum a BS degree and 1-2 years' experience in the biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry. A strong background in academic research would also be considered highly valuable.

FDBU works with technical data, technology and materials that are subject to U.S. export laws and regulations. This position will require access to technical data, technology and source code that is controlled under U.S. export laws and regulations, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations at 22 C.F.R. Parts 120 – 130 and Export Administration Regulations in 15 C.F.R. Part 730 – 774, as may be amended.
