We are currently searching for an Immunology Research Associate to support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and is onsite in Bethesda, MD.

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for performing cellular and immunological assays to support malaria basic research and vaccine development activities. Take a role in assay development, optimization, and qualifying, as needed.
  • Perform laboratory-based experiments and routine lab equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in sample collection and processing from clinical and preclinical studies.
  • Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, SOPs and lab protocols. Present findings at internal and/or external meetings.
  • Participate in technical troubleshooting and problem investigations.
  • Evaluate and bring in new methodologies/techniques as appropriate.
  • Follow SOPs and lab protocols.

 

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related field with at least five (5) years of post-graduate experience in the following areas:
    • Methods in cellular phenotyping by cell staining (surface and intracellular) and multiparameter flow cytometry, including use of BD LSR II.
    • Working with a variety of immune cells from mice, non-human primates, and humans.
  • Experience with analytic software including FACS Diva, and FlowJo are required.
  • Basic understanding of immunology, preferably with some background in vaccines, infectious diseases, and/or host responses to pathogens.
  • An understanding of animal models of malaria is preferred.
  • Ability to follow existing SOP's, lab protocols and to participate in implementation of new procedures
  • Good record keeping and communication skills
  • Good time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, team-centered environment
  • Computer proficiency including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
