Job Description


Gilead is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world.

The Biologics Discovery group is a specialized team within the Protein Therapeutics function that is responsible for the discovery and optimization of biologic drug candidates. We seek an enthusiastic Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to expand the biologics discovery efforts. The successful candidate will work with cross-functional teams to grow the biologics portfolios across multiple therapeutic areas.

Responsibilities
  • Perform antibody discovery campaigns using in vitro approaches such as phage or yeast display
  • Construct immune and synthetic libraries to support antibody discovery campaigns
  • Utilize Sanger and Next-Generation-Sequencing (NGS) methods to identify and analyze antibody sequences
  • Perform hits screening by characterizations of affinity, specificity, species cross-reactivity and epitope bins
  • Collaborate with researchers in cross-functional teams to execute multiple projects in parallel
  • Record and organize project data in compliance with company policies and research group requirements
  • Present research results in scientific presentations


Knowledge, experience, and skills

B.S./M.S. in molecular biology, synthetic biology, biochemistry, or related field with B.S. 4 years / M.S. 2 years of relevant professional experience. Job title will be commensurate with experiences. An ideal candidate will have experiences in the following areas:
  • Strong background in molecular biology including molecular cloning and sequence analysis
  • Experienced in in vitro antibody discovery technologies such as phage, yeast, or mammalian display
  • Ability to work independently in individual assignments and collaboratively in team projects
  • Excellent organization and communication skills

Nice-to-have qualifications
  • Experience in the construction and analysis of synthetic libraries
  • Familiar with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
  • Experience in multi-color flow cytometry
  • Experience working as core member of project teams
  • Knowledge of antibody and protein sequence-structure-function relationship
