General Scope and Summary

Sage Therapeutics is searching for Therapeutic Business Specialist (TBS) who is patient-inspired, results-oriented, collaborative, and has a proven track record in specialty sales. The ideal candidate will have deep experience working with Psychiatrists and OB/GYNs to promote and support a complex therapeutic delivery and the coordination of care. The TBS will possess a high level of clinical aptitude and business acumen coupled with authentic empathy for patients and families while establishing solution-seeking partnerships with all key stakeholders in the marketplace. Along with executing all sales promotional activity within their assigned markets, the TBS will have a key role in leading, developing, and executing the sales strategy, analyzing key business drivers and trends, building effective cross-functional relationships, and ensuring execution of business objectives. This position requires adaptability and the capacity to find success through ambiguity, problem solving, and seeking new, innovative ways of working.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Consistently achieve or exceed ZULRESSO sales objectives.

  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically and effectively translate the pathway to care for ZULRESSO patients to healthcare providers.

  • Promote a customer-centered culture that strives to exceed customer needs, requirements, and expectations by educating and developing rapport with external customers.

  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of disease state, treatment options, and their impact on patients, payers, institutions, health systems, and healthcare providers.

  • Analyze the market to understand the local healthcare environment (reimbursement, coverage, healthcare delivery models, referral, and patient care pathways) and use this knowledge to identify and leverage business opportunities.

  • Create and maintain strategically targeted account-specific business plans that reflect an in-depth understanding of the local market forces impacting product sales.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to execute on strategies and pull-through.

  • Lead without authority to accomplish necessary business with others, both internally and externally.

  • Execute local promotional activities and medical education programs.

  • Act as a mentor.

  • Be willing to lead and/or participate in special projects.

  • Track activities and submit reports on sales activities accurately and on time.

  • Work with the highest degree of professionalism and in accordance with the company’s polices and Legal and Regulatory guidelines.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills, and the ability to analyze complex issues to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations. Must have a demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, excellent analytical skills, the ability to lead without authority, and the ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

 

Basic Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required.

  • 5+ years of specialty sales experience in categories such as women’s health, CNS, rare disease, and infusion.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • The preferred candidate will live in the Phoenix, AZ Region of the US with the ability to cover California Accounts.

  • Proven, documented track record of delivering consistent 'top-tier’ sales results.

  • Can provide recent examples of how they have changed customers' behaviors through effective customer engagement skills.

  • Deep local market experience and knowledge.

  • Ability to gain consistent access and develop strong professional relationships for scientific exchange and promotion with healthcare providers in the community through both face-to-face and virtual interactions.

  • Strong analytical and computer capabilities to analyze the market, evaluate customer needs and objectives, and outline business opportunities.

  • Ability to create territory plans to engage customers in areas of mutual interest, align internal stakeholders on plans of action, and coordinate account and company resources to execute.

  • Possess strong account management skills, ensuring customer needs are translated properly and understood by all necessary stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate strategic account planning skills to enhance customer relationships and create a consistent positive experience for the customer.

  • Team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities.

  • Ability to travel within the Pacific Region (California, Arizona) on a regular basis, which may include the need for overnight travel to cover additional Pacific Regional Accounts.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
