What You Will Achieve

You will be operating automatic and manual chemical process equipment of varying complexity in various production processes in accordance with operating procedures. You will perform quality control analyses as required to complete in-process batches and identify variations. You will be trained in hazardous material handling and emergency procedures as these processes may generate high pressure and/or critical reactions.

As part of technical operations, you will be a team member who is relied to have a good understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment. Your decision making will help you prioritize workflows based on the available resources. You will follow standard procedures to complete tasks, some of which may vary in scope, sequence, complexity and timing. You will contribute to the team’s success by sharing your previously acquired knowledge.

Pfizer Global Supply Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Operations in Kalamazoo, MI is a world class facility. The facility includes multiple buildings with capabilities of organic synthesis, fermentation, and bioconversion processes.

The Chemical Operator Assistant will operate a variety of equipment both automatic and manual in a chemical production plant. Follows direction in order to perform daily tasks in a safe and compliant manner. The position offers an opportunity to lead and develop.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows standard operating procedures and batch records to operate both manual and automatic chemical processing equipment
  • Duties include material handling (charging and packaging), monitoring and performing chemical reactions, extractions, distillations, crystallizations, filtrations, and drying
  • Performs in-process testing
  • Maintains positive team atmosphere and productivity
  • Maintains Pfizer standards and values for quality, safety and environmental objectives as well as meeting production goals

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma / general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience
  • Knowledge of basic workplace discipline
  • Works with close supervision
  • Follows specific, detailed instructions
  • Willingness to learn automated process control systems such as Honeywell TDC 3000, Emerson Delta V, Foxboro and Wonderware
  • Contacts are primarily within immediate work group
  • Daily tasks and deliverables, where results are measured on daily or weekly basis

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Considerable standing, bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, walking, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting and moving of containers up to 25 kg.
  • Ability to work with computer systems such as Microsoft applications and SAP
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Shift: 3rd: Alternate shift schedules (11pm-7am or 6pm-6am)
  • Overtime & shift premium eligible
  • No travel
  • 7 day per week operation
  • Noisy shop floor environment with up to 25-50% outdoor work
  • Processes generate high pressure and/or temperature and require training in hazardous material handling and emergency procedures
  • Use of hearing, hand, feet and eye protection
