  • Responsibilities of this engineering grade level inherently include and expand upon the responsibilities established for lower engineering grade levels.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to the IFM (integrated facility management) engineering team, this includes writing maintenance procedures and tracking KPI’s.
  • The incumbent will make sure that all work performed by the IFM group, and the building landlord meets AbbVie standards.
  • The incumbent will work in conjunction with the IFM team to help them develop and maintain the maintenance program, and provide mentorship.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for the equipment predictive maintenance program as required.
  • The incumbent will be responsible to develop, keep and maintain the building drawings database, this includes building and equipment drawings, Turn Over packages, equipment manuals and specifications, sequence of operations, he or she will also be responsible that the building operates as per design and suggest and implement changes as needed. He or she will be the gate keeper and approver to any changes in conjunction with the rest of the AbbVie team.
  • Produces unique and cost-effective results. Establishes alternate use possibilities and incorporates flexibility; balances system costs with benefits provided; oversees design work of internal and external consultants, Creates/modified designs for intermediate problems.
  • Integrates financial with technical data. Analyzes complex interdisciplinary problems and identifies their impact; establishes probabilities; draws conclusions reflecting broad business needs.
  • Represents engineering on corporate task forces. Identifies full range of customer/client needs and proposes solutions to address them; makes alterations in products or services to better meet (recognized or unrecognized) customer need.
  • Participates in establishing strategic plans and objectives, on administrative or operational matters and ensuring effective achievement of objectives.
  • Working with the management team, develops and implements long-range facilities plan to reach objectives, and ensures that tactical facilities decisions are consistent with this plan.
  • Works with outside vendors in preparation of plans, budgets and schedules facilities modifications including estimates, quotes, layout, contracts calibrations and maintenance requirements.
  • Works with outside vendors to complete inspections of construction and installation progress to ensure compliance with established specifications (including regulatory requirements from city, county, state, etc.).
  • Manages engineering, maintenance, alteration and relocation of office/laboratory areas and equipment as well as space assignments and layout arrangements for new employees.
  • Oversees the maintenance and monitoring of all building equipment including, but not limited to, HVAC, hot water boilers, chillers, cooling towers, emergency generator, transfer switches, building automation, sprinkler system, utilities, and plumbing and electrical.
  • Interacts with vendors/contractors in handling routine requests with building including electrical, and property management (i.e., building temperature, lighting, equipment failures, plumbing problems, etc.).  Manages and coordinates vendors engaged in equipment installation, facilities equipment repair and preventative maintenance.
  • Provides off-hours support during emergencies/disasters and projects requiring non-business hours supervision/coordination.
  • Develops, implements, and manages HS&E (safety, health and environmental) policies/procedures, benchmarks safety programs and techniques to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
  • Administers office, Utilities and laboratory safety and security plans and procedures, continually monitoring locations to ensure they remain safe, secure, and well-maintained.
  • Conducts job site assessments, focusing on unsafe conditions and unsafe work behaviors; ensure appropriate action is taken to correct deficiencies.
  • In conjunction with HS&E Performs Injury and Illness investigations, root cause analysis, data trending, program audits and laboratory safety and compliance inspections. Investigates accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent recurrences. Investigates, prepares, and forwards, as required, reports on injuries to appropriate agencies.
  • Ensures that all required written programs (e.g., hazard communication, contingency plan, lockout/tagout, waste minimization plan, hearing conservation, blood-borne pathogens, etc.) are properly documented.
  • Establishes budget and accurate spending projections, manages within capital and operating resources, and identifies significant capital spend requirements during budget preparation.
  • Development of policies and procedures for the Facility, Operations and Engineering team; Communicates these to subordinates to ensure their compliance, utilizing proper tools and safety procedures.
  • Manages and coordinates year-end shutdown to include preventative maintenance, major projects, and lab modifications.
  • Responsible for long-range planning and delivery of multiple change programs on time including project performance, risk management, administration, financial management and issue resolution. Develop and report metrics for continuous improvement/maintenance of the facility.
  • Manages all daily operations for facility, engineering, maintenance, and metrology.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 


  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 5+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience.
  • Experience with the following software is desirable: AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Maximo, Revit.
  • Possesses a strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Works on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors.
  • Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
  • Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills to negotiate and reconcile differences.
  • Has a technical background in health care, medical devices, pharmaceutical, biologics, or similar industries (preferred).
