In this vital role you will serve as a technical leader for ensuring the infrastructure needs of the Research, Development, and Innovation (R&DI) Organization and sites are being met. The Principal IS Engineer will operate within a cross-functional team and possess the sense of ownership of a service delivery manager, while demonstrating the technical capabilities of a hands-on Engineer that can design, lead, and implement solutions. The Principal IS Engineer will report to the Sr. Manager of Information Systems.

Key Activities for this position include:
  • Serve as the single point of contact for the infrastructure needs of the R&DI organization. Lead or resolve R&DI infrastructure issues and engage appropriate service owners or technical leaders within the GIS team when needed. This role will serve as the Infrastructure Service Delivery Lead for key R&DI sites (additional sites as needed):
  • San Francisco, California
  • Burnaby, Canada
  • Munich, Germany
  • Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Thousand Oaks, California
  • Perform periodic travel for infrastructure health checks and lead remediations at R&DI sites
  • Using frequent collaboration and engagement with R&DI, identify infrastructure struggles of research clients and be able to engage other GIS SMEs to analyze uses cases and end to end platforms for potential optimization or alternative solutions that can improve the user experience
  • Serve as a liaison between GIS functional areas and R&DI leaders and stakeholders to provide a better digital experience for R&DI staff
  • Coordinate and contribute to the modernization efforts of R&DI site-specific infrastructure, including data center, network, remote access, etc.
  • Coordinate and contribute to GIS efforts related to laboratory construction, relocation activities at the R&DI sites, and Merger and Acquisitions efforts
  • Drive consistency in processes and adoption of GIS capabilities across R&DI sites with recognition to site-specific needs where appropriate
  • Keep management informed of key GIS efforts, communicate technical issues encountered to appropriate R&DI functional teams and be accountable for short and long-term resolution
  • Provides representation and technical interface between R&DI and internal partner organizations including virtualization, network, data, compute, virtualization, DCOps, Cloud, GISPMO, and others.
  • Travel: Domestic and international travel up to 25% may be essential

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of IS Infrastructure experience

Or

Masters degree and 6 years of IS Infrastructure experience

Or

Bachelors degree and 8 years of IS Infrastructure experience

Or

Associates degree and 10 years of IS Infrastructure experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of IS Infrastructure experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure service delivery, with at least five years supporting enterprise environments.
  • Experience managing or supporting Infrastructure projects as a technical leader
  • Understanding of Agile / Scrum methodologies
  • Strong technical knowledge of compute, virtualization, data center, cloud, and network infrastructure operations
  • Knowledge of compliance standards and requirements within highly regulated environments is preferred
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills
