The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc.  The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR) is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. With more than 2,000 employees, the FNLCR is responsible for pursuing translational and applied biomedical research that is unique from academia, the pharmaceutical industry, or other federal contractors. The selected candidate will join the NCI Patient Derived Models Repository (PDMR) program, located at the NCI-Frederick campus.

The PDMR program provides scientific and logistical support for all aspects of patient-derived model development including tissue and clinical data acquisition, model development, model quality control and quality assurance, and model distribution.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a member of a cross-functional team supporting research patient enrollment, data entry, and specimen receipt
  • Perform / review data entry, including performing quality control of incoming specimen information
  • Receive, track, and anonymize biological specimens received from clinical sites
  • Maintain database information confirming receipt of specimens
  • Communicate with shipping companies regarding delayed packages and reconcile weekly invoices
  • Track status of sample requests received from processing/repository facilities and transport samples between on-site facilities
  • Review animal facility in vivo receipt data entry for consistency
  • Maintain updated SOPs for all tasks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a high-school diploma or equivalent. Foreign degrees will be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • Ability to perform data entry, data retrieval, and data QA/QC across multiple platforms
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Acrobat
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • College entry level math skills
  • Experience with handling of biological specimens
  • Experience in quality assurance or control for technical documents, or similar
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently but also coordinate work efforts with team members
