The Senior Associate, People Experience, Risk Management Services is responsible for the implementation and execution of the site’s day-to-day operation of EHS programs for the La Jolla site. Assists with quality management and conformance with GWS Compliance Manual for the La Jolla and CTI South San Francisco sites. Manages site facilities safety functions. Oversees contractor and construction safety management. The role will also serve as the point of accountability to ensure that appropriate proactive controls are established to manage risk and develop and implement remediation strategies to close any gaps.
This position also manages the site’s occupational hygiene program, including PPE, respiratory protection and OH sampling.
The incumbent will ensure that the site's safety programs are fully compliant with OSHA and Cal/OSHA rules and regulations and internal Pfizer standards and will partner with operations to ensure colleague safety.
Assisting in coordination of the site's EHS management systems and surveillance audit preparation/ execution.
Assist in managing the site EHS Incident Investigation program.
Serves as the site as Quality Management coordinator and Facilities Safety lead.
Ensure compliance for facilities regulatory programs and serve as EHS Liaison for GWS and science lines.
Serve as a Pfizer contact to host regulatory inspectors as appropriate.
Serves as Contractor, Construction Safety lead and Occupational Hygiene lead, including Respiratory Protection and PPE coordination.
Oversee contractor pre-qualification for the La Jolla site.
Serve as the site Chemical Hygiene Officer including review and approval of chemical purchase requisitions.
Additional responsibilities may be added by GWS leadership as deemed appropriate.
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (preferably Life Sciences, EHS, or Engineering).
3+ years of experience in Safety/EHS (ideally with experience in multiple disciplines)
Capable of presenting information to small and large groups of individuals at basic and scientific levels.
Possess an excellent understanding of project management methods, procedures, and controls
Proven knowledge and experience implementing and managing and maintaining EHS compliance systems
Professional Qualifications: Membership in relevant professional bodies; relevant certifications
Master’s Degree in EHS or Life Sciences is desirable
Knowledge and experience in compliance management (EHS, USDA, etc.), especially as related to facilities operation/management functions
Cross-functional project management experience
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate global strategies and policies into site operational plans and procedures
Experience identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities
Experience in successfully developing and implementing policies, procedures and best practices
High level of leadership capability and credibility, and ability to influence
Skilled at team facilitation to build consensus and reach decisions
Strong, effective and proactive communicator, particularly across global areas and customers
Knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D line functions
Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints. NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Day shift with occasional after hours or weekend response for onsite support associated with facility incidents or excursions or planned shutdowns for maintenance and/or capital and expense project execution
Respond as required to the site in support of business continuity and emergency events
Entry and work inside laboratories, vivarium, mechanical/electrical rooms, central utility plants, maintenance shops, shipping and receiving and service corridors. While working in these areas, strict adherence to gowning procedures and personal protective equipment will be required as applicable.
General safety knowledge and awareness expected in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment
