As part of our vision, Moderna is committed to invest in R&D to further expand our impact on patients. We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA. mGx will be an innovation engine for the company focused on discovering and delivering the next generation of in vivo gene editing and nonviral gene therapies. Moderna Genomics strives to be an industry leader in genomic medicines.
Moderna Genomics is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Scientist to contribute to a new, and rapidly growing program focused on advancing novel nucleic acid-based therapies. The candidate will be part of the Animal Models and Pharmacology team. The Scientist will leverage their experience in in vivo pharmacology, ex vivo assay development and innate immunity to support and lead our novel drug modality and development. The successful candidate should have a strong background and understanding of in vivo pharmacology in mice/rats and ex vivo assay development and analysis of biological samples. Ideally, the candidate has experience in the analysis of immune responses to genomic therapeutics (i.e. viral vectors). Applicants should be collaborative team members, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Heres What Youll Do:
Design, plan and execute in vivo studies involving intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous delivery of nucleic acid-based therapies in mice and rats, in vivo imaging, necropsies and blood draws
Develop, implement and execute ex vivo assays (such as ELISA, Luminex, MSD, bDNA, qPCR, Western blot, JESS, Flow cytometry)
Scientifically develop and lead strategies to assess and target (innate) immune responses in vivo
Collaborate with internal teams to advance novel nucleic acid-based therapeutics
Deliver reproducible and impactful results under ambitious timelines
Analyze, interpret, and present data
Faithfully document scientific work
Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:
PhD (required) with 0-2 years of experience leading scientific in vivo projects in immunity, pharmacology or related subjects. Industry experience is a plus.
Strong scientific background in deciphering innate immune response in vivo
Proficient in pharmacology study planning and execution in mouse and rat (animal handling, dosing, sample collection)
Proficient in biochemical and molecular biology ex vivo assay development and execution (RT-qPCR, ELISA, Luminex, Western Blot, JESS, Flow cytometry)
Proficient in data analysis and visualization
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, scientific versatility, flexibility, results-oriented
Excellent written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills; ability to collaborate across multiple teams is essential

Candidates should be aware that Moderna currently maintains a policy requiring all US-based employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and receive a booster shot once eligible. Newly hired employees must be vaccinated and boosted prior to their employment start date. Moderna is an equal opportunity employer and will provide a reasonable accommodation to those unable to be vaccinated or receive a booster where it is not an undue hardship to the company to do so as provided under federal, state, and local law.
In over 10 years since its inception, Moderna has transformed from a research-stage company advancing programs in the field of messenger RNA (mRNA), to an enterprise with a diverse clinical portfolio of vaccines and therapeutics across seven modalities, a broad intellectual property portfolio in areas including mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, and an integrated manufacturing plant that allows for rapid clinical and commercial production at scale. Moderna maintains alliances with a broad range of domestic and overseas government and commercial collaborators, which has allowed for the pursuit of both groundbreaking science and rapid scaling of manufacturing. Most recently, Moderna's capabilities have come together to allow the authorized use and approval of one of the earliest and most effective vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moderna's mRNA platform builds on continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing, and has allowed the development of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases. Moderna has been named a top biopharmaceutical employer by Science for the past seven years. To learn more, visit www.modernatx.com.
