The QSP group is embedded within the clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics function at Moderna. We have a broad pipeline of vaccines and therapies across various disease areas including infectious diseases, rare diseases, autoimmune diseases, and oncology disorders. Modeling and simulation play an increasingly important role in decision making at Moderna. We are seeking a curious, collaborative, patient-focused and innovation-driven leader to frame critical questions and establish the right modeling & simulation strategies that enable lead optimization, inform dose selection and Go/No Go decisions

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Oversee, lead and review QSP model development efforts at various stages of R&D including target identification, first-in-human dose selection and beyound to enable accelerated/optimized advancement of mRNA platform technology and development candidates

  • Apply deep domain expertise to conceptualize mechanistic modeling approaches and provide model-based insights to guide R&D decisions

  • Identify critical capabilities and resource needs to achieve functional needs. Oversee CRO selections, mentorships, operational activities, build external consultant networks and set the right balance of internal versus external capabilities

  • Provide leadership in maintaining scientific awareness and presence in QSP modeling sciences, contribute to preparation of abstracts and manuscripts for publication

  • Strengthen our QSP capabilities on a continuous basis by evaluating and incorporating novel approaches and initiating trainings and mentorship programs as appropriate

  • Demonstrate drive, visibility and influence in key company decisions including advancement of mRNA platform technology, lead optimization, development candidate selection, patient dosage selection and clinical strategy

  • Actively contribute to a high-growth, transformational company that is Bold, Relentless, Curious, and Collaborative

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • PhD with a focus in pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, engineering, mathematics, or other related field with 7-12 years of drug development experience

  • Deep and broad experience in QSP and translational medicine with demonstrated efforts in influencing research and development of novel therapies

  • Demonstrated ability to identify key scientific questions related to R&D projects and ability to influence future advancements via applying mechanistic modeling and simulation approaches

  • Candidate will be curious in exploring new paths for model informed drug development. Will work collaboratively with multifunctional teams and will be relentless in pursuing successful outcomes

  • Proficient with modeling tools including Matlab/Simbiology, Julia/PUMAS, NONMEM, Monolix, R and Phoenix

  • Proficiency with systems modeling approaches such as differential equations, stochastic, logic, agent-based, neural ODEs or other advanced mechanistic modeling approaches is essential.

  • Knowledge of categorical data modeling approaches including logistic regression, Poisson regression, time-to-event models, discrete and continuous Markov chain models

  • Requires effective skills directed toward driving teamwork, accomplishing results, influencing, and solving problems across internal and external project teams

  • Understanding of data science and machine learning principles, including neural networks is a plus

About Moderna

In over 10 years since its inception, Moderna has transformed from a research-stage company advancing programs in the field of messenger RNA (mRNA), to an enterprise with a diverse clinical portfolio of vaccines and therapeutics across seven modalities, a broad intellectual property portfolio in areas including mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, and an integrated manufacturing plant that allows for rapid clinical and commercial production at scale. Moderna maintains alliances with a broad range of domestic and overseas government and commercial collaborators, which has allowed for the pursuit of both groundbreaking science and rapid scaling of manufacturing. Most recently, Moderna's capabilities have come together to allow the authorized use and approval of one of the earliest and most effective vaccines against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna's mRNA platform builds on continuous advances in basic and applied mRNA science, delivery technology and manufacturing, and has allowed the development of therapeutics and vaccines for infectious diseases, immuno-oncology, rare diseases, cardiovascular diseases and autoimmune diseases. Moderna has been named a top biopharmaceutical employer by Science for the past seven years. To learn more, visit www.modernatx.com.
