The Role:
It is an exciting time to be a part of the growing Data & Analytics Enablement team at Moderna. We are driving a well-supported cloud-first strategy to enable lots of data-hungry people across the company to discover, value and act on insights from data that improve the health and well-being of millions of lives across the globe. Critical to these goals are the improvements in data discoverability, contextualization, trust, quality, access and governed consumption that this role will drive and lead.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Data & Analytics Enablement, you will play a leadership role in standing-up our enterprise analytics data cataloging & data governance systems, processes & policies, content, integration to the consumption layer and ever-critical stakeholder engagement.

This highly visible role is vital to Modernas data strategy, will directly interface across all company functions and ultimately will support the utilization of our rapidly expanding data assets by enabling more confident and trusted data-driven decision-making.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Develop, drive and evolve a Data Catalog & Governance roadmap in close collaboration with the Process Governance team including owning system and technical responsibilities (Collibra), developing standards for cataloging data assets, metadata curation, fostering a data stewardship program/RACI, and building a data cataloging community of engaged participants

  • Engage with business data owners, stewards, stakeholders, digital systems and subject matter experts to populate our data catalog, business glossary/data dictionary, map data lineage, develop certified data sets and encourage ownership of some cataloging/governance responsibilities as close to the business source/consumption layer as possible

  • Partner with business and digital leaders to prioritize data assets to be cataloged, understand objectives, measure business impact, and see projects through to completion

  • Draft, align, deploy and enforce data governance policies, around the scope of the data in our catalog, in partnership with business and digital stakeholders

  • Use the most effective metadata crawlers and technical lineage harvesters to build the initial catalog & data flow content and work with business data stewards to tweak, add business context, certify and roll-out

  • Work closely with the data visualization team to embed data cataloging, lineage, stewardship & certification visibility/linkage directly in our business-facing solutions for improved user context

  • Champion the systems and processes you stand-up including hosting trainings, providing on-demand support and uncovering opportunities to drive increased engagement

  • Provide thought leadership and support in the development of a more automated, robust and flexible user access request/grant process across our data platforms with linkage to our data catalog

  • Identify the most compelling initial use cases for our data catalog that have strong business engagement and drive those towards high-value wins

  • Keep visibility high to the excellent progress and use cases you lead to generate excitement and drive adoption

  • In the process of your work, discover opportunities for optimization of our data architecture, processes and how our solutions are deployed to better fit evolving business needs

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • 9+yrs experience in data modeling, architecture, governance, analytics or similar; Pharma/bio-tech/life sciences experience preferred

  • Extensive hands-on data catalog administration in Collibra, Alation or similar. Bonus points for standing-up data cataloging solutions from scratch.

  • Ability to map data workflows, articulate data relationships/dependencies and understand the up/downstream connections between systems, business process and data consumption

  • Strong hands-on understanding of cloud data warehousing, data visualization and the data modeling that connects them together to deliver trusted and meaningful insights. Experience with AWS Redshift, ETL platforms, Tableau, Spotfire, Looker and strong SQL skills preferred

  • Impeccable business savvy and partnering skills to understand context/use cases, ask meaningful questions, provide fitting support and gain commitment. Experience in both business and IT roles preferred

  • Familiarity with data regulations and requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, GxP/21 CFR Part 11 is a bonus

  • Well-organized & detail-driven with expertise in project & stakeholder management

  • Ability to communicate at all levels with clarity, poise, maturity, and precision both written and verbal

  • Entrepreneurial owner mindset, self-driven with a first principles approach to problem-solving
