Job Details

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated scientist to join our Computational Biology group within the Genome Informatics and Data Engineering Team at Regeneron Genetics Center. At RGC, we are passionate about using human genetics to accelerate the drug development process to get treatments to patients faster. With more than a million exomes sequenced, our large catalog of coding variants provides a unique opportunity to study rare variants of functional importance. This position will focus on developing methods to understand the  effect of genetic variants on gene function and large-scale data mining of genetic variants.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

  • Create workflows and tools to enable high-throughput functional annotation of genetic variation.

  • Evaluate and implement published state-of-art variant prediction methods.

  • Develop new methods for variant interpretation.

  • Use machine learning and other methods (expression analysis, network analysis) to integrate genetic data with various external and internal resources to derive insights on gene function and functional modules.

  • Collaborate with other RGC teams, to identify key needs and questions that can be addressed using computational biology methods and tools

This job might be for you if you:

  • Are passionate about analyzing large scale genetic data

  • Have a strong work ethic and take the initiative to move projects forward in a fast-paced environment

  • Value teamwork and team excellence

To be considered for this role, you must have a PhD in computational biology/genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, human genetics, or related fields. Strong programming skills with ability to write clean, robust and scalable code in Python, R, and/or C/C++. Experience with machine-learning methods for variant and gene function interpretation. Experience with developing deep learning methods for variant interpretation and gene function prediction preferred. Knowledge of bioinformatics tools, databases, functional annotation of variants and approaches to support genetics driven drug discovery programs. Proficiency in data analysis and deriving insights about gene function from large scale annotations and integration of multiple internal and external resources, including analysis and integration of publicly available transcriptomics and multi omics datasets. Familiarity with genetics and biochemistry concepts, protein 3D structure analysis, graph theory and graph neural networks. Experience with Spark or other distributed computing frameworks, SCALA, JavaScript, interactive data visualization methods and tools is desirable.
