General Scope and Summary 
The purpose of this role as a member of the People & Experience team is to provide expertise, guidance, and support in managing employee benefits. The Associate Director, Benefits will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day administration, compliance, and vendor relationships and managing key processes like our annual benefits open enrollment, while ensuring operational efficiencies and an excellent employee and manager experience. The role will be part of ongoing market assessments, developing new innovative and relevant programs, as well as assessing the effectiveness of current programs to ensure our benefit programs are competitive and innovative to match our needs. This role may also provide support in other rewards areas (e.g. compensation, recognition) as needed.
Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of US benefits including health and welfare (life and disability insurances) plans, 401(k) plan, time off, tuition and educational assistance, tax-favored accounts, transportation benefits, and supplemental programs.

  • Lead initiatives such as our Wellbeing initiative including physical wellness, emotional/brain health, and financial wellness. 

  • Ensure programs are competitive and engaging and provide an optimal employee experience aligned with our culture.

  • Manage relationships with our consultants, brokers, and vendor partners, as well as internal stakeholders.  

  • Ensure plans are compliant with federal, state, and local statutes. For example, US compliance requirements include keeping plan documents and SPDs up-to-date, Form 5500 filings, disseminating required communications and documentation to employee population (e.g., Forms 1095-C, SARs, SPDs), and providing data and submitting filings for various requirements.

  • Provide recommendations for benefits, wellbeing, compensation, and recognition programs with an understanding of employee mindsets, engagement, benchmarking, and best practices.

  • Responsible for aspects of Workday People system related to rewards functionality, and employee experience from onboarding through open enrollment. Provide regular management reporting of key metrics and insights.

  • Provide project management for implementations and programmatic changes.

  • Responsible for communications and maintaining information on our rewards intranet site.

  • Collaborate internally with key functions and groups such as Legal, Payroll, Finance, Employee Experience team, and others.

  • Reconcile and process benefit plan expenses.

  • Resolve benefit claims issues raised by employees and vendors.

  • May manage reward coordinators and specialists.

Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Must thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, and the ability to identify issues and raise to key stakeholders in order to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations. Must be customer oriented, always looking for opportunities to improve the employee and people manager experience. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 6+ years of employee benefits related experience, 2+ years of which managing employee benefits. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the life sciences industry.

  • International benefits experience. 

  • Proficiency in MS Suite: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, as well as Excel (e.g. pivot tables, vlook-ups, etc.). 

  • Experience with Workday HCM.

  • Experience working with all levels of management.

  • Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented. Attention to detail and the ability to work individually or as a manager or project lead within a multi-disciplinary team. 

  • Ability to thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills including the ability to work with data to provide insights to support business decisions.
