The Role:

Moderna is seeking a talented and experienced Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to work on mRNA vaccine evaluation, protein purification and characterization to help discover and develop new vaccine antigens and other therapeutical modalities to prevent and treat infectious diseases (IDs). The candidate will work collaboratively with internal teams to help advance the ID portfolio. Research will involve antigen discovery, characterization, and evaluation in vitro and in vivo. Applicants should be outstanding at lab-based research, collaborative team members and excellent communicators.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Express proteins in mammalian and bacterial cell systems and purify them using various chromatography techniques including IMAC, SEC, etc.

  • Characterize structural, biophysical, and binding properties of purified proteins by SDS-PAGE, Western blot, Biacore (SPR), Octet, ELISA, melting temperature measurements etc.

  • Structural studies of key target antigens by using protein crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy.

  • Coordinate production, characterization, and formulation of mRNA vaccines for the prevention of viral and bacterial diseases

  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to rapidly develop mRNA vaccines and therapeutics.

  • Manage an inventory of laboratory reagents and support logistics of external receipts/shipping for partnered programs.

  • Interpret, summarize, and present experimental data and results at group meetings, project meetings and department meetings

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelors degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in Biochemistry, Cell biology or related discipline or Masters degree with 2+ years of relevant experience in Biochemistry, Cell biology or related discipline.

  • Extensive experience with mammalian protein expression as well as protein purification and characterization is required.

  • Proficiency in biochemistry, Western blotting and ELISA assays is required. Experience with various chromatography techniques such as SEC, HPLC, IMAC & Protein A Chromatography is required.

  • Candidate will be curious in exploring new path for drug discovery, bold in proposing creative experimental designs and ideas. Will work collaboratively with multifunctional teams and will be relentless in pursuing successful outcomes.

  • The individual must possess excellent data management and verbal/written communication skills, have ability to perform experiments, evaluate and process data, present results in a clear, concise, and timely manner, and assist with the preparation of final written reports.
