Role Summary

The Retail Pharmacy Account Specialist (RPAS) is responsible for developing durable business, deepening collaboration with Regional Retail Pharmacy partners, and growing appropriate use of appropriate Pfizer Primary Care Retail Pharmacy products by identifying shared objectives, aligning resources, and deploying innovative solutions to achieve targeted business results. This is accomplished through identifying, prioritizing, and managing opportunities to affect access, programs, education, and processes that will increase the appropriate use of Pfizer retail pharmacy products. The RPAS’s primary focus is to ensure access to the Pfizer retail pharmacy portfolio through the development of productive relationships with Retail Pharmacy field leaders. The RPAS will communicate effectively with retail pharmacy field leaders to understand and support mutually aligned goals for successful implementation programs. Additionally, the RPAS will engage diverse local stakeholders, combining innovative thought, entrepreneurial business acumen, and consultative account selling skills. This candidate will need to work with highly matrixed organizations at Pfizer and its customers. This position reports to the Retail Pharmacy Business Manager (RPBM) and must collaborate closely with the National Pharmacy Directors (NPD), Sales and Account colleagues, Marketing, Medical and Legal and Compliance to plan and implement activities to achieve national and regional Pfizer objectives.

Responsibilities

Customer & Account Management

  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with key retail pharmacy field leaders (decision makers and influencers) within the target customers such as Divisional Vice Presidents or equivalent, Retail Pharmacy Regional & District Leaders, Clinical Directors, Field Clinical Trainers, Field Operations, and other field pharmacy leaders outside the HQ offices who implement chain HQ direction to implement retail pharmacy-based programs
  • Leverage Pfizer’s value proposition to create mutually beneficial business opportunities that result in action and outcomes
  • Identify, connect and communicate multiple insights from various stakeholders to develop a plan of action that is mutually beneficial to Pfizer and the customer
  • Seek out opportunities for synergy and collaboration to achieve both Pfizer and Retail Pharmacy customer goals through active and transparent customer planning
  • Prioritize customers, opportunities, and projects to maximize impact; leveraging all available data sets and stakeholder maps input to optimize decision making
  • Develop a tailored account management approach to each account based on their needs and adapt in response to evolving markets
  • Employ strong pre-account management planning, effective presentation to focused and productive questions, as part of effective solutions-oriented project plans
  • Generate sustained immunization initiatives with these pharmacy field leaders by successfully aligning Pfizer resources to a customer’s immunization programs
  • Use latest approved educational content and resources to address needs of customers
  • Implement pull through with effective project management to include field leader education and patient identification through workflow engagement tools
  • Facilitate internal sharing of chain best practices in patient identification, workflow, and counseling
  • Analyze and monitor key market trends, competition, past customer interactions, and other market data to maximize effectiveness of each account interaction
  • Execute marketing programs across customer segment and present approved materials to deliver value added messaging in a compelling manner; developing and executing programs that are strategic in nature and may have near, mid, and long-term market and financial impact

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Operate in a team environment that encourages innovative ideas and a culture of collaboration and teamwork. Be adept at creating a vision for the future and be able to create a pathway to help optimize the customer’s vaccination opportunities in a compliant and engaging way
  • Align with National Pharmacy Director (NPD) to ensure appropriate understanding of, and support for Retail Pharmacy goals (i.e., brand and customer)
  • Drive customer centricity focus overarching account value versus product specific, understand and address what influences prescribing and purchasing decisions
  • Contribute to annual internal customer plans in collaboration with NPD. Impact and influence development of RPAS strategies by partnering with needed cross functional teams to compliantly shape efforts and deliver results
  • Work with NPD to understand the strategic plan for each of the target customer, and the implications for how to prioritize and implement the plan in each geography.
  • Utilize organizational awareness skills and alignment of Pfizer's priorities to include appropriate Pfizer colleagues with a Retail Pharmacy to optimize value provided to the Customer and to Pfizer
  • Provide the marketing and strategy teams with key geographic and customer specific insights that they can utilize in crafting new market-specific materials
  • Appropriately and compliantly communicate and collaborate with cross-functional field-based colleagues (Sales, Medical, PCA, Government Relations, etc.) to ensure appropriate engagement with geographic Retail Pharmacies
  • Partner with Pfizer stakeholders to facilitate colleague understanding of local market/customer drivers. Responsible for pull through at the highest customer geography level working across One Pfizer to pull through tactics and drive appropriate utilization
  • Share and help scale proven practices across the region and nation
  • The candidate should expect to meet with their customers both live and virtually as needed. Customer interactions may also include promotional exhibit opportunities

Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's Degree. Advanced degree in a related field preferred

Required: 5+ Years’ pharmaceutical (or related) experience – combination of sales and marketing in pharmaceuticals or related industries
Preferred: Prior account management experience in retail pharmacy or large organized customers

  • Valid US driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with company standards
  • Meet or exceed product performance objectives
  • Demonstrated success working in matrix environment, leading through influence and orchestrated customer interactions across multiple teams in different organizational structures
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage and deliver impact among key decision makers with large accounts
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to formulate, develop, write, communicate and monitor the execution of stakeholder business plans
  • Demonstrated experience in executing and in overseeing highly complex programs and projects (i.e., strong project management skills)
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating effectively and gaining alignment with colleagues across different parts of the organization (including field and HQ)
  • Prior team management and/or account management preferred or an IDP-aligned development role for account management with demonstrated leadership across peer and manager groups
  • Demonstrated track record of assessing customer needs and bringing relevant cross-functional appropriate tools and resources
  • Demonstrated track record of strong leadership, cross functional leadership, collaboration and effective utilization of available resources to drive performance
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging data and all available information to prioritize business opportunities
  • Demonstrated success in problem solving and entering new markets in a structured organization
  • Strong understanding of evolving healthcare landscape in US, including US Healthcare Reform, and impact on Retail Pharmacy customers
  • Demonstrated track record of strong business acumen, problem solving, strategic thinking, and project management skills, as well as excellent planning and prioritization skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in executive level customer engagement presentations. Engagement presentations will often be directed at high levels of organized customers and will require excellent executive presence
  • Excellent communication skills to impactfully explain public health argument and clinical value proposition of Pfizer Retail Pharmacy products to target customers, and to influence the products’ acceptance within the customer organization
  • This position is an individual contributor with accountability for collaborative matrix leadership of other customer facing colleagues with respect to regional or national channel accounts and must always adhere to and model all Pfizer Values and compliance principles
  • Extensive travel is required based on geography. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time based on business requirements, to include customer meetings and internal Pfizer meetings
  • Ability to travel domestically and stay overnight as necessary. Frequent overnight travel may be necessary in most geographic locations.
  • Candidate must live in the location or within a commutable distance to majority of geography as approved by the Retail Pharmacy Business Manager (RPBM) and National Retail Pharmacy Team Lead
