This position is part of the US Finance Shared Services Record to Report (RTR) Operations organization. US FSS RTR Operations is responsible for centralizing and executing accounting processes, governance and controls and delivering organizational efficiencies via centralization of common accounting processes for certain global, US regional and the US BU functions.

 

The Senior Accountant provides Accounting Shared Services for businesses supported. This includes review of data sources for accuracy and completeness, preparation of month-end close journal entries, balance sheet account responsibility and support of audit and tax deliverables as requested. Collaborates with Treasury and other stakeholders to ensure complete and accurate results with meaningful variance commentary. This role acts as the accounting contact for US bank accounts, interacts with Treasury and other stakeholders in terms of cash settlements and payment disbursements, this role is also heavily involved in inter-company reconciliations and out of balance analysis. Complies with AbbVie policies and US GAAP. Senior Accountant works under direct guidance of Manager.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with Treasury and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and complete results with meaningful variance commentary. This includes ensuring accurate cash pooling, posting for US banks accounts (BOA and JPM main accounts, IHC loans and clearing accounts, and other responsible US bank accounts), and posting cash clearing entries for all US entities.
  • Collaborates with and provides accounting services to Treasury, Benefits, Tax, Business Finance, L-AGN accounting, AP & AR teams as primary customer. To ensure cash transactions are properly booked and cleared.
  • Work closely with Corporate Consolidation team to analyze various inter-company out of balance issues, prepare journal entries to fix inter-company out of balance at month end.  
  • Validate BPO manual clearings and global account reconciliation of manual inter-company clearing accounts for US /HQ non-cleared balances.
  • Review monthly inter-company AR and AP aging reports, follow up with OUS entities on aged items and subsequent settlements.
  • Submit ICB requests for cash related inter-company transactions and perform subsequent cash clearings.
  • Research uncleared cash items by following up with various teams to identity payment owners and post payment accordingly.
  • Update and maintain bank clearing notebook to keep track of payment posting and contact information.
  • Performs monthly upload processes and prepares journal entries for businesses supported. Reviews and prepares reports and results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare bank related open items reconciliation reports.
  • Supports maintenance of the system (review, issue resolution and mapping).
  • Prepares and reviews annual federal and state tax packages and year-end accrual components for Corporate Tax.
  • Serves as direct contact for and supports Sarbanes Oxley, Tax and Audit requests including documentation and testing procedures, internal audits, external audits and intercompany billings for tax allocation purposes.
  • Provides accounting support and input for projects, systems and process improvement initiatives.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis and support projects as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. CPA preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 4+ year’s related accounting experience required. Ability to work independently and adjust priorities to achieve accurate and timely results. Proficient computer skills, including Excel  and SAP and experience with HFM is preferred
