Role Responsibilities

  • Develop long-term strategic planning for environmental operations and emergency services team

  • Set objectives for and manage multiple projects within a division, developing innovative, advanced new concepts that improve processes or products

  • Lead and participate inEnvironmental,Health andSafety (EHS) audits of company facilities (all businesses, all regions)

  • Review audit team progress before and during an audit, organize audit team resources (including consultants), audit scope development, scheduling and task assignment

  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation and sustainable results across projects/programs, assessments and implement resulting action plans

  • Monitor emerging process safety requirements throughout the Industry and initiate proactive gap closure in terms of adoption of industry best practices

  • Develop risk assessment methods and tools for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards

  • Ensure that reports on the performance of the EHS management systems are communicated to the site leadership team and planned improvements are implemented where required

  • Promote employee involvement to prevent accidents, maintaining a hazard-free work environment and conduct/organize all related trainings

  • Lead communication strategies with external agencies on occupational health and safety matters

  • Ensure that EHS management system requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with Pfizer Corporate Requirements

  • Develop a talent base ofhigh performing professionals and managers to deliver on business unit and strategic projects.

  • Create a motivated, committed and engaged project team that fosters innovation and professional development

  • Serve as a site EHS Leader while directly managing members of the EHS Team

  • Effectively lead and manage multiple Environmental, Health, Safety, initiatives, and programs

  • Program management will included high hazard programs, contractor safety, site construction activities, including but not limited to the EHS change management

  • Management of Business Continuity programs at the site including Crisis Management and alignment with BCM priorities from Divisional / Corporate leadership

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, Pfizer standards, and industry consensus standards

  • Input into the creation and deployment of the strategic plan to identify injury reduction and risk mitigation strategies and to work with site leadership to create and implement accompanying action plans

  • Lead gap assessments of existing programs, identify continuous improvement opportunities, and lead the EHS Team to close gaps and implement solutions

  • Establish and execute Leading Safety Indicators and other key EHS metrics for the site

  • Provide leadership for Site’s Crisis Management team serving as the Crisis Management Coordinator during any unplanned or emergency event

  • Developing and conducting EHS-related training to colleagues and contractors on an as needed basis

  • Lead EHS shutdown activities for the site

  • Champion cultural change at the site through various initiatives

  • Supports site master plan and site EHS strategy implementation

  • Candidate will demonstrate personal leadership, initiative, judgment, and accountability in day-to-day work activities in addition to exhibiting strong planning/organizational skills. Ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously

  • Must possess strong communication skills and demonstrate integrity and cooperation in working with diverse colleagues/groups

  • Conducts safety training and awareness sessions for FEMCO employees and ensures training is delivered and documented on an ongoing basis. Designs the safety training curriculum and ensures it is updated regularly

  • Continuously drives improvement in health and safety measures.

  • Assists in preparing the required plans and appropriate facility operating procedures or checklists

  • Serves as a contact for federal, state and regional health and safety agencies

  • Facilitates emergency response protocols

  • Participates in accident investigations, performs root cause analysis for all injuries and “near misses”; trains operations supervisors to conduct thorough investigations and root cause analysis

  • Maintains knowledge of all applicable corporate, federal, state and local health and safety regulatory requirements. Stays abreast of developing regulatory requirements, particularly on a state and local level. Keep operations informed of new and developing regulations

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • BS with a minimum 10 years of dedicated EHS experience with experience leading EHS teams or >15 years of dedicated EHS experience with no degree

  • Extensive experience managing and implementing EHS programs

  • Detailed expertise in the risk management (assessment and implementation of risk mitigation strategies)

  • Construction Safety experience

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience with Emergency Management, or Crisis Management required

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate effective cross functional meetings of colleagues at all levels of the organization

  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient in MS Office applications

  • People Management experience

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work across multiple countries and cultures

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements and guidelines associated with biosafety

  • Good understanding of safety and environmental programs and key processes

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact

Nice-to-Have

  • Relevant pharmaceutical experience

  • Certification in recognized EHS specialties or professional license

  • Relevant specialization in EHS (e.g. lab safety, occupational hygiene, biosafety)

  • Experience working in dynamic complex, matrixed business models

  • CSP, CIH, or other EHS-related professional certification

  • Experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing

  • Certified Business Continuity Professional

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to perform field observations which could involve walking or standing on uneven terrain, squatting, bending, twisting, turning, and reaching above shoulder height and work in various climates from extreme cold to heat

  • May require walking, standing, and/or sitting for prolonged periods

  • Must be able to walk or drive between site buildings/areas on the site

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Standard work schedule, Monday – Friday, days; may infrequently require off-shift and weekend support

  • On call 24/7
