JOB SUMMARY:   

Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking a talented Research Associate to join our Neuroscience Research group to perform cellular and molecular assays to support our ongoing efforts for the advancement of our therapeutic platforms in central nervous system diseases. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of therapeutics across our pipeline and in supporting the translation of research efforts into the clinic. Key responsibilities include screening and assay development to support lead candidate selection. The position requires adaptability, organization, attention to detail, effective communication, teamwork, and a capacity for constant innovation in pursuit of company goals.  This is a temporary position. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Execute basic molecular biology techniques including RT-qPCR, nucleic acid purification, molecular cloning, PCR, Sanger sequencing, and Nextera library preps.
  • Carry out microarray and transcriptome sequencing studies.
  • Isolate genomic DNA, RNA, and protein from mammalian cell culture and tissue samples.
  • Utilize high throughput methods involving automated liquid handling.
  • Plan, execute, and document laboratory procedures and experiments with great attention to detail.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. in molecular and/or cellular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or related discipline. M.S. preferred.
  • 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience in an academic research laboratory or biotechnology company. Experience working in an industry setting is preferred. Level will be determined by education, experience, and skills.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques (RT-qPCR, nucleic acid purification, PCR) is a must.
  • Experience with microarray and/or transcriptome sequencing and analysis is a must.
  • Hands on experience with high-throughput assays is preferred.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, R, Python, and statistical analysis.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong experiment design, problem-solving, and data analysis skills are desired.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience with neuroscience and gene editing technologies preferred.
