JOB SUMMARY:
 
Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Contracts Manager to assist with the negotiation, management and drafting of agreements with a variety of business partners.  The Senior Contracts Manager will act with a sense of urgency to drive agreements to closure while protecting Sangamo.  The Senior Contracts Manager will collaborate extensively with internal stakeholders and cross-functional partners to develop and implement improvements to contracts processes and tools, including the Conga/Novatus contract management system, and conduct employee training sessions on contracting topics.
The ideal candidate has a background in the life sciences, biotechnology or healthcare sectors, although other industry experience is valued and accepted. This role will report to the VP, Associate General Counsel – Transactions & Licensing and will be a member of the Sangamo Legal function.   This role will be expected to work onsite in the Sangamo headquarters in Brisbane, CA at least two days per week, with the ability to work remotely or onsite for the rest of the week.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Primary responsibilities include the following but other duties may be assigned):

  • Review, draft and edit a broad range of contracts for internal business partners and assist in the negotiation of contractual issues and optimizing of contract language to support business requirements.
  • Coordinate daily incoming contract requests in Conga, assign contracts for review to Legal where necessary, coordinate signature process. Coordinate and correspond with internal clients and external parties to obtain and exchange information and legal documents.
  • Foster and develop strong relationships with internal company stakeholders in Legal, Procurement, Research, Finance, Business Development and other functions.
  • Learn and implement industry best practices for contract administration within Sangamo’s contract management system (Conga/Novatus).  Partner with Procurement to optimize companywide contract management processes.
  • Maintain and enhance contract templates for key contract types, including Confidential Disclosure Agreements, Master Services Agreements, Statements of Work, Consulting Agreements, Clinical Trial Agreements and Material Transfer Agreements.
  • Ensure that Sangamo contracts comply with Sangamo policies and practices.
  • Develop training materials on contracting topics for Sangamo employees and conduct trainings regularly.
  • Prepare reports and advise management on the status of various agreements and on the status of the contracts management infrastructure. 


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal degree or certification preferred but not required. Demonstrated experience may be substituted for the educational requirements.
  • At least 5-8 years of experience negotiating and drafting agreements
  • Knowledge of legal and commercial terms and concepts
  • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a high functioning team in a fast-pace, high volume environment to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
  • Flexible in adapting to changing priorities and be able to handle several tasks at one time.
  •  Must demonstrate sound reasoning skills, excellent problem-solving skills, knowledge of contracts, and ethical judgment within broadly defined practices and policies.
  • Organizational skills and high level of attention to detail, including familiarity with Conga/Novatus, MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Background in life sciences, biotechnology or healthcare preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with Conga/Novatus contract management systems preferred but not required; familiarity with other contract management systems is also a plus.
