The Senior Associate Scientist position will be part of the Downstream Pilot Plant in Devens, MA to scale-up and execute downstream processes for late-stage biologics in BMS’s robust pipeline. This role will work closely with the upstream team, analytical team, as well as with manufacturing sites within the BMS network to deliver robust, scalable, and economical processes for late-stage clinical and commercial supply. This position will report to the Manager of Downstream Pilot Plant and will be based in Devens, MA.

Key Responsibilities

• Use scientific expertise to provide solutions to a broad range of difficult problems.
• Introduce, evaluate, and implement innovative new process technologies to support platform evolution.
• Responsible for daily operation in the Downstream Pilot Plant, including operating chromatographic and filtration skids, sample submission, preparing buffers, and monitoring/troubleshooting
• Prepare and reviews technical documents including tech transfer reports, batch records, and SOPs.
• Maintain a safe work environment in the Pilot Plant
• Introduce, evaluate, and implement innovative new process technologies to support platform evolution.
• Participate in cross-functional teams to support process investigations, process development, scale-up, and tech transfer to clinical and commercial manufacturing
• Collaborate with partner Upstream Pilot Plant and Downstream PD to ensure smooth process and material transfer

Qualifications

• B.S. with 4 years of industry experience or M.S. with 2 years of industry experience
• Strong knowledge of downstream processing development and unit operations, including preparative chromatography, ultrafiltration/diafiltration, depth filtration, and viral inactivation.
• Knowledge of cGMPs is preferred.
• Prior experience in single-use manufacturing and automation is preferred.
• Knowledge of upstream processing is desired.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Capability for travel up to 5-10%
