The Role

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Vice President Global Marketing for Oncology will create the long-term and integrated commercial vision for the Oncology Franchise. This position will represent the therapeutic area from a commercial perspective to provide insight and input into the drug development process including clinical trial design, clinical endpoints, lifecycle management, and for new indications. The Franchise Head will identify and decide on key strategic issues for all programs and assets within their franchise. They will partner with cross-functional leaders such as Research & Development, Medical Affairs, Value and Access, as well as the offices of the Chief Brand Officer and Chief Digital Officer. This is also a leader that will work closely with the regions and countries as programs near commercialization.

The VP will lead the long-term commercial strategy development for the oncology portfolio. This individual will represent the commercial voice in all pipeline decisions for this therapeutic area. This will involve conducting commercial analyses, gathering insights from different teams, developing initiatives, addressing long-term commercial issues, and scenario planning. This function then gathers cross-functional teams to discuss these initiatives, issues and scenarios and to facilitate/lead decision-making. Finally, this function is responsible for rolling out global marketing, commercial initiatives and preparing products for launch and commercialization of the Oncology portfolio in different regions and countries

The successful therapeutic area leader will be a dynamic, experienced individual with a strong track record of strategy and team leadership across a variety of settings and topics in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. They must have the proven ability to effectively manage complex and dynamic projects, influence stakeholders within a matrixed organization that is also global. This leader needs to exhibit effective communication and a hands-on approach of getting things done within an organization that is dynamic, fast-moving, and continuously growing.

Heres What Youll Do

  • Develop and execute a holistic therapeutic area strategic vision to balance near-term and long-term priorities and commit to a course of action to accomplish established goals. Oversight includes assets end-to-end (pipeline to in-line).

  • Providing strategic thinking to allow for identification of future market opportunities, review of the franchise portfolio and prioritization of opportunities for internal research, and external opportunities for potential acquisition or partnering.

  • Build, lead and develop an industry leading team to deliver on the scope and remit of the therapeutic area

  • Direct the development of life cycle plans for compounds from IND stage through loss of exclusivity.

  • Oversee early stage molecule commercial assessment, market research and pipeline strategies.

  • Direct the development of disease area strategies for the critical therapeutic areas within the scope of the therapeutic area.

  • Lead current and future potential partnerships and alliances (e.g., global profit sharing with Merck for PCV, US profit sharing for IL-12 solid tumors with AstraZeneca, etc.).

  • Oversee the development of launch planning for new products including a differentiating strategy, unique branding, compelling positioning, key messaging and the overall global launch campaign.

  • Provide oversight into the development of pipeline products including an integrated evidence plan that will differentiate the product for marketing and reimbursement, identify clinical endpoints and outcomes for clinical trials and real-world evidence generation that are meaningful for physicians and patients, and lead to product differentiation.

  • Coordinate and cooperate cross-functionally with R&D, Medical Affairs, Government Affairs, Value and Access, Health Economics and other functions as required to carry out the therapeutic area strategy and ensure strategic solutions carry a cross-functional perspective.

  • Forge strong working relationships with regional commercial partners, cross functional leadership and senior executives.

  • Support assessment and evaluation of Business Development deals.

Heres What Youll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Fifteen plus years experience working in the biopharmaceutical industry in marketing and sales roles with increasing responsibilities, complexity and accountabilities; experience with global oversight is a must.

  • Have held a global strategic marketing, portfolio strategy or franchise role with a track record of working closely with development as well as the countries

  • Technical expertise in end-to-end lifecycle management of a brand, launch planning and execution, and disease area assessment; support of R&D through the drug development process; and evaluation of business development and pipeline opportunities

  • Experience working within a market or brand will also be important, but not a must
