The Role:

The Director, CDO Business Analytics and Operations Management will be accountable for the development and implementation of tools and process to support business analytics and operations management for financial oversight within Clinical Development Operations (CDO). The successful candidate will have experience in identification and implementation of solutions to support adequate clinical functional financial oversight throughout the lifecycle of a clinical program. This is a dynamic and collaborative position playing an integral role in a fast-paced and results oriented environment.

Heres What Youll Do:

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to support and collaborate on best practices and improve or develop policies, procedures, and high-quality training around business analytics and function-specific financial operations activities

    • Initiate and drive process improvement initiatives and implementation and training for best practices, processes, and standards with study teams, finance, and CDO function leads for new and existing tools and systems

  • Support study teams in requests and discussions with finance on reporting and analyses

  • Lead efforts with CRO partners and other third-party vendors to align on expectations for budget and forecasting deliverables

    • Drive, in collaboration with procurement, finance, alliance management, and outsourcing, for end-to-end financial processes and reporting requirements

  • Provide subject matter expertise to individuals and teams upon request related to quarterly forecasting, actuals and accruals reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, and long-range planning

    • Support teams in financial assessment and impact for new studies, programs, and/or amendments to existing studies

    • Be a resource to finance and liaise with functions, including Clinical Outsourcing, to ensure POs are managed appropriately (opening, paid, and closed)

    • Support teams for planning and ensure accuracy of clinical trial budgets and forecasting, including modeling clinical study spend and maintaining or developing system to maintain cost models with related assumptions

  • As a key stakeholder and leader within the Clinical Trial Excellence and Support team, collaborate with Moderna Digital and cross-functional stakeholders on vendor selection, contracting, implementation, continuous improvement, and oversight of systems and tools

    • Serve as business owner for select tools and systems used by CDO for function specific financial oversight and management

    • Maintain current state knowledge of industry trends and applicability of systems and tools to transform ways of working at Moderna

  • Clearly track and communicate strategy, key deliverables, milestones, and timelines as relates to the business

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table:

  • BA/BS required; Advanced degree preferred

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in a clinical research environment within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry

  • Direct experience in implementation and management of tools and systems to support the operational aspects of financial management

  • Direct experience in overseeing budget, accrual, and forecasting activities within a clinical development setting

  • Solid understanding and working knowledge of Contract Research Organizations, third party vendors that support clinical trials, and related finances

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment
