JOB SUMMARY:   

Sangamo Therapeutics is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst III to work on functional genomics data to support the development of therapeutic clinical leads. The qualified candidate will provide guidance to the project by helping design gene expression experiments, writing analysis software, and interpreting results.  Duties also include creation and support of web tools for wet lab exploratory data analysis

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Support and enable gene expression (Affymetrix, bulk RNASeq, single-cell/muclei RNASeq) and NGS experiments by writing code that generates robust, interpretable, actionable items from sequencing data

Support genomics activities in cross-functional therapeutics setting Work in collaboration with cellular/molecular biologists to design functional genomics experiments in therapeutic target selection Perform computational analyses to answer relevant biological questions Generate and test hypotheses on genome-scale data using analytical and statistical methods Query and integrate data from public omics resources to enable decision making Maintain pipelines for analysis and display of sequencing data  

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

Must have MS (with 4-5 years of relevant experience) or PhD (with 3-4 years of relevant experience) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioengineering or related area Strong background with NGS platforms and analysis (Illumina, Affymetrix, bulk RNAseq, single-cell sequencing, etc). Strong background in statistical and machine learning methods Experience with AAV sequencing Understanding of molecular biology processes, mammalian/viral genomes, and large-N experiments Proficiency with handling large-scale data in a Linux and/or cloud environment (e.g., AWS) Proficiency with development and application of computational methods to characterize on-/off-target, translocation, and gene expression profile of gene-edited cellular products Excellent Python & R programming skills Strong sense of responsibility for generated data Understanding of molecular biology processes Excellent communication skills Familiarity with common NGS/genomics formats and resources (NCBI, UCSC, EnsEMBL) Familiarity with at least one scientific/statistical graphics programming environment (ggplot2, dash, matplotlib, scipy, seaborn, D3.js, etc) Git source code management experience  

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience with non-Illumina sequencing platforms (PacBio, Oxford Nanopore, Ion Torrent) Experience with basic web forms Experience with Docker Familiarity with CAR-Tregs Familiarity with SQL and/or noSQL databases
