MISSION OF THE POSITION

The Senior Scientist, In Vivo Pharmacologist/Translational Science is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing strategies to develop and execute relevant Immuno-Oncology disease models in supporting preclinical research and drug discovery programs. The ideal candidate will contribute extensively with hands-on In Vivo experiments and will have a future opportunity to manage 1-2 research associates. The Senior Scientist In Vivo pharmacologist works to create a work environment consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategy of iBio and is responsible for mentoring, training, and supporting professional development of junior Scientists and research associates. Responsible for developing and implementing a robust clinical oncology biomarker plan that translates our preclinical knowledge into competitive strategies for programs moving into early clinical development and driving bench to bedside and bedside to bench learning.

The Senior Scientist, In Vivo Pharmacology/Translational Science role is located is San Diego, California.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, design, and development of animal models to test the biological efficacy of therapeutic agents for oncology indications
  • Conduct pre-clinical studies to enhance our understanding of the underlying biological pathways and MOA of portfolio assets
  • Identify and lead external collaborations with CROs and academic institutions and manage the execution of in vivo studies internally or at CROs.
  • Design and coordinate key in vivo studies to assess the activity (PK-PD), mechanism-of-action, safety and efficacy of candidate molecules
  • Planning and execution of discovery and validation of predictive, prognostic, safety, and disease biomarkers
  • Develop and implement the immuno-oncology portfolio translational medicine strategy including making recommendation regarding endpoints, study design, safety evaluations and dose selections.
  • Lead and guide working groups to implement clinical biomarker and translational research strategy and lead ongoing programs and projects and updates to senior leadership
  • Support preclinical research and with clinical experience with Phase 1 studies 
  • Critically evaluate project data to contribute to data-driven Go/No-go decisions
  • Present data at scientific conferences and publish data in scientific journals
  • Must be a team player with a collaborative spirit, and capable of building and maintaining networks within and outside the organization.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated proficiency with in vivo efficacy rodent models, including mouse syngeneic, xenograft and PDX models. 
  • Hands-on experience with tumor cell inoculation, animal dosing via multiple routes (IV, PO, subcutaneous, IP), in life and terminal blood and tissue collection, tumor measurements and data recording. 
  • Experience with in vivo imaging is desired
  • Excellent scientific and technical knowledge in in vivo tumor Pharmacology
  • Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills with senior management, direct reports, and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to multi-task and excited for hands-on in vivo laboratory research. 
  • Critical thinking is a must, high degree of ownership and accountability, ability to quickly adapt to changing projects and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Translational biology expertise and experience, including a strong focus on mechanism-of-action, pharmacodynamic (PD) and predictive biomarkers, mechanisms of resistance, rational combinations and the identification of potential new indications for therapeutics
  • Direct experience developing immunological, pharmacodynamic, and pharmacokinetic assays for cell or immuno-oncology therapeutics is required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • MS or PhD in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Pharmacology or related field in Biomedical Sciences
  • Minimum 3+ years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience is required
  • A strong background in immuno-oncology and experience in translational medicine
  • Experience working with preclinical syngeneic xenograft tumor and PDX models, including rodent handling, tumor cell implantation, tumor growth analysis.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Immuno-Oncology expertise and experience, including a strong focus on target/agent mechanism-of-action, pharmacodynamic (PD) and predictive biomarkers, mechanisms of resistance, rational combinations and the identification of potential new indications for therapeutics
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in immuno-oncology translational and clinical development.
  • Experience in clinical biomarker/translational research is strongly preferred
