What you will do

Amgen is seeking a passionateUnified Communications Engineerto join a successful team of engineers within our Customer Care & Experience team which focuses on advancing capabilities which improve the experience of internal Amgen customers (workforce). Within Customer Care & Experience, the Digital Workplace Experience team focuses on driving adoption and improving business value of deployed End User Technologies. These include synchronous and asynchronous collaboration solutions such as WebEx, Microsoft Teams, Miro, Conferencing, AV endpoints, voice infrastructure and other related ancillary products and platforms. The team consists of cross-disciplinary IS professionals who understand how to deliver services that span operations, engineering, governance, and enablement.

We are looking for an individual with strong technical skills and experience working in a dynamic environment that demands high-quality and efficient results to help develop, configure, and deploy new synchronous collaboration technologies within Amgen to enable new ways of working in a hybrid work-from-home and office environment.

This role is 95% remote but will require occasional visits to Amgen office locations.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Assists the design, development, configuration, and deployment of projects related to synchronous collaboration technologies such as Webex, UCM Calling, MS Teams, Zoom, Pexip, etc.
  • Interacts with IS managers and vendors to identify and evaluate new technology products for their services.
  • Partners with business users to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions.
  • Reviews business requests for system enhancements and undertakes cost evaluation, standards reviews, and prioritization.
  • Deploys or upgrades the system or technical solution to meet business requirements for functionality and reliability.
  • Works with the Principal Architect and Senior Manager to:
  • Align IS strategy and planning with the companys business goals and objectives
  • Provide consensus-based, scalable, and adaptable solutions.
  • Establish relationships with internal and external partners to drive road maps from our existing platforms to integrate with emerging technologies
  • Identify upcoming technologies and industry trends to propose new technology or upgrades.
  • Writes and Maintains system documentation such as Admin SOPs, user guides, and Knowledge Base articles for common issues.
  • Works with Global Information Protection teams to evaluate the security of existing and new platforms, and assists with deploying solutions to remediate any identified security concerns
  • Works with operational teams and service providers to troubleshoot issues and fix problems that L1-L3 teams cannot solve.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications
  • Masters degree and 2 years experience as a Unified Communications Engineer or similar role
Or
  • Bachelors degree and 4 years experience as a Unified Communications Engineer or similar role
Or
  • Associates degree and 6 years experience as a Unified Communications Engineer or similar role
Or
  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years experience as a Unified Communications Engineer or similar role
  • Direct experience with building, deploying, or upgradingthree or moreof the following platforms:
  • Cisco UC (UCM, Unity, Webex Meetings, Control Hub, PCCE)
  • Microsoft UC (Skype, MS Teams Meetings and Calling)
  • Other SaaS/VCaaS Voice and Video systems (Zoom, Google Meet, Amazon Chime, GoToMeeting, etc)
  • Other legacy video conference systems and codecs (Polycom RealPresence, Cisco CMS/TMS, Poly Trio, Cisco Roomkit)
  • Strong understanding of Video and Voice over IP (VoIP) protocols (SIP, H323, H264, H265, Opus, G.722, etc)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant UC and/or AV certifications (CTS-D, CCIE, CCNA, MS-740 Teams Support Engineer, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of AV products such as Crestron, Extron, Cisco, Biamp, LG Displays (including DV-LED), and/or other similar products/brands.
  • Knowledge of basic networking principals (DNS, ISE, QOS, AVB, Dante, Multicast, and other areas needed for successful deployment of new collaboration platforms and networked collaboration devices)
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Experience with application security controls such as SSO/SAML, data retention policies, encryption, and firewall policies.
  • Experience with one or more of the following scripting/automation tools: PowerShell, Python, VBA, Power Automate, UIPath,
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and JIRA
  • Ability to think big and challenge conventional wisdom regarding technology refresh and hype.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and willing to take principled bets on new technology.
  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of the Project Management lifecycle.
  • Strong attention to detail to identify system design issues before installation.
  • Ability to establish, implement, and enforce appropriate IS standards to meet business requirements.
  • Ability to perform market and competitor analysis.
