Associate Director, Data Classification

We are looking an Associate Director, Data Classification to lead the evolution of how Regeneron protects our internal and external data while enabling access of the data to our Scientists, Clinicians, Industrial Operations, Commercial and Corporate colleagues. In this newly created role, you will have the opportunity to shape risk-based approach to data classification that recognizes the healthy tension between protecting our assets versus placing undue burden on scientific and business processes. You will be successful by striking a steady-state equilibrium between business unit autonomy to operationalize data classification according to risk while ensuring consistency across the enterprise. You will partner actively with Law and Information Security. You will be responsible for enterprise-wide data classification policy, communication, training, change management and governance.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

• Developing, implementing and managing policies, procedures and standards for data classification in partnership with functional departments across the enterprise.

• Leading change management efforts.

• Developing training strategies to implement data classification standard processes across the enterprise.

• Implementing and running processes and controls to monitor compliance to data classification policies and deal with exception processes.

• Handling on-going data classification governance processes.

• Partnering with functional business areas on risk-based approach to implementation.

• Working with the data owners to ensure that data security and integrity are preserved as data moves across the organization.

• Promoting a culture of data as an asset to instill behaviors that reduce risk while increasing sharing

• Driving continuous improvement process.

This job might be for you if:

• You have knowledge of data classification standard processes and controls. 

• You have experience in their application in a pharmaceutical/biotech company.

• You have successfully navigated complex regulatory or compliance environments

• You have implemented governance frameworks and enterprise-wide policies

• You thrive in new situations, are comfortable with ambiguity and effectively lead multiple priorities with a sense of urgency.

• You are comfortable and confident interacting with senior management.

• You have strong change management skills including the ability to communicate, collaborate and influence partners across the enterprise.

• You have a passion for articulating vision, championing and leading change, as well as achieving high quality results.

To be considered for this role you must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 8 years of progressive experience in data governance, data classification or data protection domains. Experience in pharmaceutical industry, preferred.
