What You Will Achieve

Pfizer’s Durham Clinical Manufacturing Facility (DCMF) is an early stage cGMP manufacturing facility for the company’s gene therapy candidates as they enter Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials. The site contains a multi suite, cGMP manufacturing space capable of producing both drug substance and drug product along with ancillary support areas including Analytical Research and Development labs and inventory management spaces. The DCMF operations group allows applicants to get involved in various aspects of a cGMP manufacturing operation while delivering multiple gene therapy products for rare disease indications. Gene therapy is an exciting growth area within the biotechnology industry and Pfizer’s portfolio. Our manufacturing facility is conveniently located in the RTP right off Interstate 40.

The Suite Schedule Engineer of Biotherapeutic Drug Manufacturing will be required to coordinate with DCMF Operations, Metrology, Technology Services, Quality Assurance and Analytical colleagues to identify and coordinate project tasks for a multi-product facility.

How You Will Achieve It
  • Coordinate process equipment use times, enabling tracking of calibrations, preventative maintenance, and processing times
  • Projecting project timelines across support and production areas for Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacturing
  • Coordinating sample management between manufacturing and Analytical Research and Development
  • Work with vendors for timing of preventative maintenance, calibrations, trainings
  • Keep metrics for typical processing times, look for trends, and communicate those metrics to staff when needed to identify potential operational improvement opportunities.
  • Assist in scheduling of colleague trainings


  • 3-5 years’ experience with an BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in cGMP as related to manufacture of biologics
  • Good working knowledge of GLPs and regulatory compliance requirements in a cGMP environment.
  • Ability to think critically and demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • The successful candidate will possess the ability to exercise informal authority to influence scheduling decisions and work in matrixed teams.
  • The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • In addition, possesses strong workload planning skills, organization, and attention to detail, and follow through.
  • Problem-solving and trouble shooting skills are essential.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task concurrent project demands.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office required e.g. MS Word, MS Excel.

  • Master's degree and relevant biologics experience
  • Project management experience
  • History using CMMS and/or global documentation management systems
  • Adaptability to changing work assignments and priorities
  • Collaborative skills and effective partnering skills in a complex, multi-discipline organizational model
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to identify opportunities for continuous improvements and enable implementation

  • Position could require cleanroom gowning


  • Position requires occasional off hours work in manufacturing support.
  • Possibility of occasional travel to other Pfizer sites
