What you will do

In this vital role, you will be responsible for metrics and analytics for the Staff Relations team and provide staff relations support to managers and staff. The Staff Relations Senior Associate also will conduct investigations into certain issues and provide project management support as needed. The Staff Relations Senior Associate will report to the Staff Relations Lead for Corporate Functions and R&D and will partner closely with all Staff Relations Leads and the Director Staff Relations. Staff Relations is a specialized Human Resources function that partners closely with managers, Compliance, Legal, and collaborators in HR to protect Amgen values, investigate potential violations of HR policies, provide practical advice and guidance on coaching staff and managers, and to advise on performance and behaviors management, involuntary terminations, and workplace accommodations. This is a hybrid/flex commuter role, meaning that the successful candidate may be expected to come to Amgen's Thousand Oaks campus a couple days each month, but a remote work arrangement may be considered upon request.

In this role, your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Support and manage projects and initiatives for Staff Relations group
  • Enter, manage and retrieve data from case management system and prepare quarterly and annual metrics presentations
  • Analyze data to identify trends, find efficiencies, and suggest process improvements and system changes
  • Create and maintain project plans and timelines: identify and resolve issues, work with team members to focus on critical path activities, and develop and deliver status reports
  • Assist with development of tools and templates for staff relations team and managers
  • Develop and recommend solutions to managers on a variety of staff relations issues including managing poor performance, documenting and implementing disciplinary action, making accommodations for medical conditions, and navigating issues
  • Draft and review performance documentation and participate as needed in corrective counseling and termination conversations with staff and managers
  • Conduct internal investigations into certain issues, such as expense report falsification, and prepare all required documentation
  • Maintain positive work environment by responding to staff members concerns, proactively addressing issues, and advising management teams regarding standard processes
  • Document all cases and issues in tracking systems in a timely manner
  • Assess potential realignment of electronic document and file storage sites for staff relations cases
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to all issues

Basic Qualifications:

Masters degree

Or

Bachelors degree and 2 years ofproject management experience project management experience or HR experience

Or

Associates degree and 6 years of project management experience or HR experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of project management experience or HR experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills: charts, graphs, pivot tables, analytics
  • Proficiency in HR systems including Workday and EthicsPoint (or other case management system)
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and fairly apply company policy, internal HR procedures, and regulatory guidelines within scope of duties
  • Ability to maintain and report on confidential information in an appropriate manner
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and prioritize time
  • Demonstrated ability to manage difficult conversations and interactions
  • Experience working on employee relations matters
  • Strong verbal and written communication combined with organizational skills and cross-cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and establish and maintain working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups
  • Demonstrated customer service/client orientation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; E-mail (Outlook) and Internet; experience using a case management system such as EthicsPoint
