What you will do

In this vital role you will help build innovative scientific applications with modern technology stacks that will be used by our research partners to drive Amgens innovation in drug discovery. The candidate will join our Research Informatics team to deliver data engineering solutions for the Omics team. You will support our Research partners in designing and implementing IS solutions for Discovery, Non-Clinical & Early Development.

The Research Informatics team supports discovery research and translational sciences globally with innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgens pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. Our success in informatics is driven by our dedication to the IS Vision:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop data processing pipelines for datasets in the cloud (Databricks); integrate with other data sources where applicable

  • Query, manipulate, and visualize data using Python and Databricks

  • Collaborate with the other engineering team members to ensure all services are reliable, maintainable, and well-integrated into existing platforms

  • Adhere to best practices for testing and designing reusable code

  • Ensure effective communication between scientific area management, technical staff and vendors to analyze scientific needs and implement informatics solutions in data acquisition, integration and analysis

Basic Qualifications:

Masters degree in computer science or closely relevant degree program

OR

Bachelors degree and 2 years of software engineering experience

OR

Associates degree and 6 years of software engineering experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of software engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science or Engineering

  • Demonstrated foundation in software design and proficiency in languages such as Java and Python

  • Experience implementing data pipelines using Python and Spark on Databricks or AWS platforms

  • Strong learning agility, ability to pick up new technologies used to support early drug discovery data analysis needs

  • Strong experience working with Agile & DevOps (Jenkins, JIRA, Github) frameworks with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment

  • Experience in developing or supporting bioinformatics, cheminformatics, laboratory automation, or other scientific applications

  • Experience in Cloud (AWS, Databricks platforms) environments

  • Analysis and reporting experience by leveraging analytics, visualization, and database technologies (Oracle, PL SQL, Spotfire, Tableau, Python NumPy, SciPy, Pandas)

  • Experience working with container technologies (e.g., Docker), developing microservices, infrastructure-as-code (Cloudformation, Terraform or others)

  • Experience in developing and supporting web applications including familiarity with web technologies and frameworks (EXTJS, D3 JS, React.js)

  • Expertise with translating business requirements to technical requirements and recommend solutions

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
