Summary of the Position

This is a non-supervisory, mid-management position responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive business and marketing strategies that address all aspects of the marketing mix (price, product/service, promotion, and distribution/channel) which will drive maximum impact (revenue, gross profit, expenses, capital investments and public health).

The (Senior) Marketing Manager develops, executes and monitors the global strategic business, marketing and operations strategy for the program unit. The candidate co-leads a cross functional Program Unit Team working collaboratively with the Scientific Lead. Together, the Program Unit co-leads will work to apply strategic business and scientific insights to reference standard and monograph development and other key products or services. The candidate has primary responsibility for bringing the customer voice and market understanding to drive impact, revenue, and profit for the program, and will draw on resources from various functions across the organization to support the program strategy.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads all global strategic business and marketing efforts for given program area
  • Monitors customer satisfaction and understands customer needs and desires
  • Tracks and oversees program areas impact on Profit & Loss
  • Makes key decisions, and oversees the execution of program operations
  • Co-leads Program Unit with Science Head; aligns on key strategies and resource prioritization, and compromises to find fair trade-offs between competing interests if necessary
  • Develops and conducts customer and product profitability analyses
  • Identifies and recommends appropriate actions to improve customer and product profitability
  • Ensures that customer and product development within program area is strategically focused
  • Identifies opportunities to capture value from improved pricing or other initiatives
  • Leads budget planning and revenue forecasting for Program Unit
  • Oversees development and alignment of the Marketing Plan with the business strategy, including Marketing materials such as product brochures, sales tools, advertisements, digital and social content, and any other promotional material required to support the execution of the Business Strategy
  • Applies business knowledge to identify new business opportunities recommending new products, systems and services to USP.
  • Working with cross-functional groups (e.g., marketing communications/operations, market intelligence, science, US and global sales teams) to build alignment and drive results

Basic Qualifications

Manager

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, business, or scientific field is required.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience with a minimum of 2 years in Product Management, Business management, Sales Management, Business Development, or Purchasing.
  • Combination equivalent of degree / years of experience accepted.

Senior Manager

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, business, or scientific field is required.
  • Eight (8) years of related work experience with a minimum of 4 years in a business role such as Product Management, Business management, Sales Management, Business Development, or Purchasing
  • Combination equivalent of degree / years of experience accepted.

Skills Sought

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to excel in a cross-functional environment.
  • A strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree in life sciences or equivalent and an MBA.
  • At least ten years of experience in pharma or related industry, with a combination of commercial and technical roles.
  • An understanding of USP and use of USP RS.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient at digital marketing and use of metrics to measure success of digital marketing programs.
  • Ability to excel in a cross-functional environment.
  • A strong work ethic.
