Summary of the Position

The (Senior) Regulatory and Policy Communications Manager will drive strategy and implementation of communications initiatives that 1) drive awareness of USP engagement with regulators and policy makers, and 2) distill and connect public and regulatory policy content with a range of stakeholders. The leader will partner with colleagues to leverage a range of communications channels with a particular focus on digital. Key audiences will include the regulatory affairs community in industry, regulators, policy makers and policy influencers. This strategic role will expand USPs profile of collaboration with regulators, policy makers and influencers; and convey USP regulatory and public policy perspectives to shape dialogue on policy that advances the supply of quality medicines in a more resilient supply chain.

Roles and Responsibilities

Collaborate with colleagues in the US and in USP regional organizations to develop communications plans that are integrated into regulatory and policy engagements and ensure their implementation

Partner with the Public Policy team and the USP Quality Institute on communications plans that connect USP policy content to dialogue on relevant policy topics

Work closely with digital and social communications team to create digital content and approaches to maximize digital dialogue on priority topics.

Work closely with web team to continually update content on the policy hub on to reflect USPs policy engagement and content development efforts

Continuously update and improve USPs regulatory and policy website presence.

Work with digital team to maximize SEO for regulatory and policy priorities.

Mine regulatory and policy content for dissemination by USPs Regions and Programs Office to enhance customer nurturing efforts on USP solutions address industry and regulator needs.

Ensure that communication is a central element of USP-sponsored meetings or convenings on priority policy topics.

Work closely with USP regional teams in India, China, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico, Basel (Switzerland), and the Middle East to highlight regional engagement activities and outcomes with regulators and other stakeholders (including USP Regional Chapter convenings) to key external audiences.

Measure success of regulatory and policy communications by setting objectives, identifying KPIs, tracking progress and adjusting appropriately.

Basic Qualifications

Regulatory & Policy Communications Manager:

Bachelors degree in relevant field, with minimum of five (5) years of experience in a relevant trade association or in public affairs/ public policy role in industry, non-governmental organization, think tank, or consulting.

Minimum of one (1) year of experience in strategic policy communications.

Senior Regulatory & Policy Communications Manager:

Bachelors degree in relevant field, with minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a relevant trade association or in public affairs/ public policy role in industry, non-governmental organization, think tank, or consulting.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in strategic policy communications.

Skills Sought

Knowledge of/ experience working in public policy process and the U.S./global healthcare sector

Strong writing, editing, presentation, and communications skills

Digital marketing / social media experience

Demonstrated understanding of the role of communications in policy and advocacy

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated application of engagement best practices in the health, pharmaceutical, biotech, regulatory or science space.

Strong writing skills for a variety of audiences.

Ability to work with global teams, to influence and inspire in a matrixed organization.

Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once while maintaining focus on outcomes.

Agility comfortable with change, adapting to new processes, objectives or tactics.

Curiosity desire to grow understanding of issues and innovation, well-honed organizational, interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and listening skills.
