ROLE SUMMARY

The Visual Inspection Specialist (VIS) is expected to be fully trained on all applicable Manual Inspection procedures.

The Visual Inspection Specialist will be required to be fully trained in conducting defect classification on completed products. The VIS will teach and/or re-qualify Inspection and/or Filling colleagues on Manual Inspection vial procedures and also maintain their yearly training requirements as guided in their OJTs as a VIS. Interpersonal skills are essential in this role, as you will be expected to interact with and correct individual colleague behavior and practices. With Quality department guidance, the VIS will carry out decisions relative to product quality on vaccine product defects throughout the value stream. The VIS will be expected to hand off information at shift change/meetings and may be asked to communicate information with other units and shifts to ensure alignment. The VIS may be asked to oversee all aspects of training documentation in PLS, inspect the product, participate in special projects, perform training room inspections, perform AQLs, defect classification, audits, or other miscellaneous activities, including any work as assigned. This role will also require computer support from operations personnel to help new colleagues and contractors navigate their training documents. Work is performed in strict compliance with manufacturing standards and all regulatory requirements.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspection Support: The VIS leads onboarding training for new Manual Visual Inspectors training them on all applicable procedures. VIS may also train new VIS personnel. Works well with a broad spectrum of personality types and can adapt their training methodology to the learner for an optimal outcome. Oversees PGS Learning Solution (PLS) enrollments, inputs completion data into the program, and submits training documentation to the GMP Training team to ensure compliance and alignment across the shift and department. Coordinates daily with their peers and works independently to ensure tasks are completed. Maintains seeded sets for every product type. Simultaneously supports multiple inspection lines performing AQL inspections and overseeing trainees requiring higher-level organizational skills—inputs data into the Visual Inspection Defect Tracking (VIDT) system. Additional responsibilities include inspecting products, participating in special projects, performing training room inspections, executing defect classification, and conducting monthly and annual requalification on everyone trained to perform a manual visual inspection. The VIS role completes GMP documentation daily and may be assigned other activities such as defect creation for system suitability test sets.

Filling Support: VIS will train and qualify Filling personnel on the Manual Visual Inspection process to perform quality checks. VIS will also perform annual requalifications to ensure proper training is maintained. The VIS will perform quality checks on designated filling lines in APS and APN. The VIS may also be requested to perform procedure checks on filling operators to help improve the filling colleague’s training and understanding of performing in-process Quality Checks on multiple filling lines. Quality checks may directly impact filling line operations and the product quality, influencing the overall product disposition.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 yearsof relevant experience.

  • Experience: Previous experience as an Inspection Operator or Line Coordinator is desired

  • Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations: Powered Industrial Vehicle (Low Lift / Motorized Hand Lift)

  • Language Skills: Good oral and written communication skills

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate percentages as well as multiplication and division

  • Reasoning Ability: The colleague must have an acceptable level of reasoning ability.

  • Physical Demands: Repetitive bending, lifting, twisting, and standing for extended periods.

  • Work Environment: The colleague is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The light level in the work environment is lowered to accommodate inspection processes. Use eye protection is required.

Math and readingskills are required for SOP, GMP, and Batch Record comprehension. Ability to contribute to department success in a team environment and perform tasks at a productive level under demanding conditions is mandatory. Must be self-motivated and willing to learn new and changing responsibilities. Requires a demonstrated ability to self-direct daily activities to meet the production schedule.
