About Lab Manager – Waltham, MA

Our Alloy Discovery Services group is looking for a Laboratory Manager to join our team in our new headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts. The position will report directly to our Associate Director of Operations to support the global Alloy Discovery Services scientific team and Venture Studio by performing procurement and inventory management, as well as general lab ops such as maintaining equipment, facilities, and safety standards. In addition, you will work with our Operations team to improve our current procurement systems using the very latest technologies with the ultimate goal of helping others to make better medicines. The role requires a team player who is comfortable in an all-hands-on-deck startup environment.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Drive cost reduction strategies through strategic sourcing, aligning with R&D stakeholders to achieve organizational efficiency metrics
  • Create and administer purchase orders and other transactions from requisition to completion, including inputting invoices in Bill.com and 3-way matching of packing slips, invoices, and POs
  • Maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment, executing service contracts, and planning optimal equipment locations
  • Overseeing and maintaining a safe and healthy laboratory workspace and performing employee safety training
  • Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
  • Monitor and update ETAs to end-users on outstanding requisitions, and develop contingencies for supply chain disruption
  • Being generous when others are needy, greedy, or fearful

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education preferred with 3+ years experience, preferably in a biotech-related purchasing and procurement setting
  • Knowledge of basic computer systems (ex: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office) and ERP systems and other tools required for purchasing (e.g., NetSuite, Bill.com). Prendio/Bioprocure or Coupa are also a plus
  • Excellent organizational and verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize tasks, and escalate issues as needed
  • Proven self-starter with a track record of managing multiple and fast-paced projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment; ability to cultivate and maintain effective business partner relationships through earned respect and trust
